Just need a bit of advice really on what may happen to him - he was run over this morning and my wife took him to the vets to get him seen to. Now, he wasn't registered with a vet so we took him to our local one who have had a look at him - he apparently doesn't have any feeling in him tail or lower back at the moment, has an injured penis (blood on the end of it) and his back legs are floppy. The vet has now taken him to the main centre, and he is awaiting surgery apparently - but they say if his bladder is damaged then he will probably need to be put to sleep

Has anyone had anything similar happen before to them? I just wish that he stayed in this morning instead of going out, and I hate to think of him in so much pain. I would gladly take the pain myself if it would make him better. Most part of me thinks he will have to be put to sleep

He is insured by the way, paid excess before the vet would do anything for him (surgery wise I mean, they gave him a painkiller apparently straight away).

Cheers
Craig

:(
Cripes, I hope your cat recovers

I have lost one in similar circumstances and also had 1 make a full recovery, fingers crossed that your cat makes it:thumbs:

Sorry to hear that :( Someone ran over our cat a couple of years ago, they must have stopped and picked him up as we found him dead in the morning frozen stiff lying in the garden with a cigarette butt beside the body....and he didn't smoke :(

Poor thing! I can't offer any advice, hope he recovers quickly.

Poor thing, the vets will do the best they can, I hope he gets better.

Sorry to hear this...
We have lost one of our own on the busy main road outside, came home from a week-end away to find that he had been run over. Some kind person knew that he was ours so put him on one of the garden seats so that we would find him.
We had another one hit by a car late at night. He was, at the time, the wife's favourite and she was distraught.
Rushed him down the emergency vets who took £85.00 off of us before he would do anything.
Turned out that the car had only caught him a glancing blow but it cost a further £150.00 for injections and tablets to get him back to normal.
He then promptly buggered off and decided to live with the family five doors down! We still see him from time to time but he's not "our" cat anymore.
I really hope it's not bad news for your cat....I have never really been a cat lover until we got ours about 4 years ago and I wouldn't be without one now.
All the best
Rob

If the back legs are floppy and there's no feeling in the tail, Im afraid it sounds like his spine is broken. If this is the case, it really would be more humane just to put it to sleep.

sorry to be bad news messenger :(

you're just writing out what I'm thinking to be honest :(

Vet said she'd call us when he's had some stuff done (xray etc), so just waiting for the call.

hope that doesnt happen to my 2 cats!
It doesnt sound hopeful and as said above it might just be the best thing to do for the cat.
I hope there is something the vets can do.

Yeah, it's never pleasant, especially if you've had it for a while.

To be honest, if it had been me hit the cat, and saw that amount of damage, I'd probably have put it to sleep there and then. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the best. I've had to have many a pet put down for many reasons, and it never gets easy.

Sorry about you poor cat :(
I have to agree it doesn't sound good for the little fella.

Mine was run over when she was 5 years old, the driver took her to the RSPCA who sent her to the vets and they fixed her legs which had been broken and skinned to the bone. Thankfully the were no internal injuries, then the RSPCA cared for her until I could be contacted.
No fee's were charged by the RSPCA or the vet, they got a donation from me though.

our cat (at my parents) got hit by a car, it damaged its hind legs and tail, the vet gave my parents 2 options, either £1k+ worth of micro surgery to repair the bones in the hind legs (mainly crushed bones) and reset the tail, OR leave the cat as it is, keep it inside and let it adapt, they chose the latter and now 6 months on, yes the cat has a jornty tail and isnt quite as adjile as before but shes happy and contented and doing all the stuff cats do (******** on the carpet, bringing home gifts etc)

Phoned vets just now, they say he's quiet and settled after some anaethetic, will be having some xrays tomorrow lunch-time so we'll know for sure then how to progress. They were worried about his bladder, but he has had a pee so they aren't SO worried about that now.

Just a case of waiting, going to give them a call in the morning to see how he got on overnight but it is looking a few percent better at least.
Cheers
Craig

Fingers crossed that the poor little chap pulls through

Thinking of you, Hope all goes ok! I got it all crossed!!!!!

:D Glad there is some hope :D

Come on lil kitty, pull through, you know you can!!

Awww I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. That he is going pee is a very good thing though, its still probably so critical though...and cats have this crazy amazing ability to mask pain, but hopefully the rads turn up good news in spite of the situation...I work at a vet clinic and see my fair share of sadness but, sometimes miracles often appear and I hope this is the case for you and your kitty. Hang in there. :)

Have you had any more news on him, hope he is doing ok, and recovers quickly.

Sorry to hear about your cat. keeping everything crossed for you that he's gonna be ok

I feel for you, we lost one cat at only a year old to a car outside our house, and the other was hit, but not too severely. She ultimately had to have her tail amputated, but otherwise was fine - well until the fox took her a few months ago but thats another story. I have my fingers crossed for you that the damage is mainly heavy bruising in the spinal area causing the loss of sensation and rear end control and not anything worse. Many years ago when I worked in a vets we saw several make full recoveries from this kind of accident, but I don't want to give you false hope either, we saw several have to be put to sleep too. Good luck.

we lost one of ours to a car just a week ago- first we knew was when one of the neighbours knocked on the door to ask if we had a big black cat - well we do, but it was actually the fluffy black and white one. Can only have been a glancing blow as there wasn't a mark on her, but it looks like the hit broke her neck, killing her instantly. Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough, my other half managed to break her foot in the mad panick to get out and see what was going on - back up to the hospital in the morning to have the second cast put on :(

fingers crossed things work out for you guys

any more news?

Unfortunately, had a call from vet yesterday lunch time with results on Joey's X-rays - he had a broken and splintered pelvis which had gone into his bladder and back passage. Vet told me that even though urine was coming it, it was not voluntary - just leaking out so it was a bit of false hope about him peeing
She said that even though the pelvis was repairable, he also had nerve damage which meant he may never be able to pee or poo normally again and would not be walking properly due to the extend of the break on his pelvis.

We had to make the decision and he was put to sleep just after 3.30pm yesterday Needless to say, we are totally devastated about losing him but had no choice as it would be no life for him to be as he would be He was my best mate and we will miss him so much but just have to concentrate on all the amazing times we had with him. Can't believe he was only 4 and 1/2, feels like he's been with us forever and it's hard to imagine not having him.

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone, they really mean a lot.

Craig

Sorry to hear that :(

Really, really sorry to hear this Craig...:'(:'(:'(

It's no consolation I know, but at least the poor thing isn't in pain anymore

Chin up mate

Rob

So sorry to hear that Craig
At least he is in a better place.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
