Hi
I have a Canon 1000D camera which keeps defaulting to French language.
I change the language to English but once the camera is turned off and on again it reverts back to French.
I have tried clearing all the camera settings but this does not solve the problem.
I have updated to the latest firmware but this has not solved the problem either.
Do any of you knowledgeable guys out there know of a solution to my problem?
Thanks
GGraham

Warning ... unhelpful reply follows...

Learn to speak / read French?

or better still, take it back to where you got it from and tell them you cannot understand the language.

Sounds like the onboard CMOS battery is dead (if it has one).

Often hidden away now. I had to look very hard to find it on my 5d3 and even then you need a tiny screwdriver to get it out

When it resets to French, does the clock also reset?

I don't think (from Googling) the 1000D has a replaceable backup battery. It would be a repair job if the backup battery is no longer holding charge.

Be ok once we have left the EU, but in the meantime more likely the battery that stores the BIOS details

As Eloise mentioned above on the 1000d its non replaceable and soldered to the motherboard, so I'm afraid its learn the lingo or send off to Canon for repair

By the way ... does it just reset to French (and possibly reset the clock) when you remove its main battery for storage?

This may sound like a stupid question but bear with me......

If you select German, does it change to Dutch when you cycle the power?
