cheers toothie, thats good to hear. still i think i may be going off at a tangent :cuckoo::cuckoo:

Boz, box, nobody said we had to have a box :naughty:

I really love the detail in the rings and think it fits the theme well  from me.

cheers bruja

Well done, excellent shot and detail, well outside the box, that no one has to be in  Mine won't be anywhere near the edges of the box, let alone outside...

cheers john. it's good to get nice comments like that.

great idea nice one

yeah i am its going to be fun and i agree the colour one does look better. for some reason the b&w one looks rather flat!!!!!

Boxes - I thought the theme was history :), and this fits as far as I'm concerned (not that it matters - as long as you are happy that's the main thing).

Having seen your first attempt I think this is an improvement, the wood being dry helps in this. I still think some off camera lighting positioned so that it spreads across the wood would help bring out the grain (to see what I mean look to find out how to photograph coins). If the light came from the right of the image I think would also help to throw the background in to deep underexposure (and effectively make it disappear). However, I realise not everyone has the kit to do that - although perhaps you could try it with a bright torch even if that could give colour balance issues.

As you appear to like looking for boxes to go outside of next week's theme should really suit you, I'm looking forward to seeing what you go for.

A what a good idea - all that History in the rings :)

If I had to plump for one I prefer the colour version myself :)

So many variations on this one :) Great stuff!

first of all thanks for all the comments. second how i wish i had somr off camera lighting but it was taken during the day in the middle of a lane round the corner from where i live. and thirdly a totally agree with you darkstar. someone said that wood looks better black and white but i feel it's too flat. i prefer the colour image too

Ah - good take on history there - I too prefer the colour one though, more depth to it iyswim
