My 52 - Updated - *Week 48 Confusion and 52 Texture* - health to come!

That's another brilliant dog shot from you...:clap::clap:

Yes just a tad from perfect but then, I would like to be the TOG who took this shot...very nice indeed...

A very good pair of shots. The Self Portrait works very well, nothing I can add, it's all been said... and fixing the Nikon logo is easy... flip the image... ;)... The shot for Season also works very well for me... Well done.

I'm going to put this week on holda guys. I go away to Kenya on Sunday and nothing is done, I am in a major panic world and can't even think straight let alone do anything with this task. Havn't had a moment to myself all week.

Apologies

Hope you have a great time away

I have neglected your 52's..... I am sorry. Your mono shot is a great interpretation, I agree about the focus point but it's still good. The GSD is gorgeous (I may be biased) and as such any link to season is fine by me.

Hope you have / had a great time in Kenya and look forward to the resumption of your 52.

Righto, here are my half hearted attempts, will get myself back into gear with this soon. Got back home from Safari yesterday, and didn't get to sleep this morning[23hours I was awake] been a long day yesterday and some family issues happened whilst we were away too. So I'm gonna use safari pics for the themes.

Right, so there's Grunge....?
A grunge-esque landscape

Respect
The most respected animal - with the most respect for others.

Friendship will have to be this one, taken on Monday :)
Not the best but family stuff is taking up this week and I head straight off to work once it'll all be remotley calmed down.

And if any of you are interested, the rest of my safari pics are on my Flickr

Let's ignore the grunge one! That was an awful theme anyway :D. The other 2 are crackers, love em both.

Love the elephant shot - really nice. DoF and detail top notch. One question - was it the horizon or the elephant that was on a slope? ;)

Welcome back, and I hope that you get your family issues sorted out soon :(
I'm impressed that you got these photos in at all with the combination of sleep deprivation and family to deal with.

Grunge : I like this as a landscape in its own right, but it doesn't really say grunge to me (horrible theme that it was!)
Could maybe do with a straighten up, but yes I do like it. Shame there's not a link to view it larger.
What can I see on the left? Looks like a mini tornado

Respect :  Lovely detail and skin texture. I think you were right not to try to straighten the horizon or you'd have a wonky elephant ;)
The quirky composition with the elephant not all in frame shouldn't work, but somehow I'm finding it very appealing.

Friendship : Nice capture of the two lions in motion, but I don't like this one as much as the other two. I feel like the lions are a bit lost in all the scenery . . . maybe a pano crop with the lions on the top third would give them a bit more impact.

Thanks very much for the comments guys. On all the wonky horizons in this case, we were on mini slopes, the landscape shot is the side of a mountain, took it from a high viewing point near Mt. Killamanjaro

It is a mini tornado[well they call them that] they're very very common in Amboseli and hundreds plotted around, just the dust being brought up.
I like doing odd framing sometimes, strange iz I.

Friendship, I REALLY wanted to enter a lovely mother elephant and baby shot for this, but it was taken the week before, and I had nothing else with more than one in the shot. I'll have a sift through and see if I can find something else, I'm not really keen on the image either.

Will try and get a better Friendship shot in this weekend, have just had an emergency work call this morning, so am doing a local job. They've just got a new pup so that should be good to get shots with the other dog!

Grunge...I really like this shot, not really grunge but a very good landscape...

Respect ...That would be a cracking shot, but is spoilt with your name just in the wrong place for me, would look so much better on the other side of the frame...:clap::clap:

Friendship is the weakest of the three but, I would still have been happy to have been there and got that shot...

First off - welcome back. I hope the family issues get sorted quickly. It sounds like a bit of a downer to come back to, so like Sarah said, all credit for even thinking about the 52, let alone keeping up to date, and each phot has its own merits. Well done. :)

Irrespective of the themes, the location for these three shots is fabulous and to be togging elephants and lions is awesome. I'm not a bit jealous though - honestly. :D:D:D

Jean

Love the safari shots....brings back happy memories of living in Zambia. well done and hope the probs sort themselves out
Jon

Welcome back, it looks like you had a great time. Sorry to hear about the issues, and I hope they're sorted out soon.

Grunge, doesn't really say grunge to me, but I do like the shot, especially that little tornado thingy...

Respect, works, superbly well... The odd framing on the elephant, to me, is actually just right for this shot.

Friendship, they are just a little too small in the frame, not much you could do though. No reason you couldn't use the elephants for this week. You were away after all.

Well you've done well considering you've been away. Respect is the stand out shot for me, cracking image,

Thanks very much guys!!

Not a very imaginative name for them, but that is what they look like, so I suppose it's descriptive enough

I'm with John - Never mind which week you took it, post your mother and baby elephant shot anyway. I'd love to see it!

Oh if I have to
[think I'm gonna boost contrast on this though! and maybe B+W it, not Sepia]

Your three shots are great - but the respect one takes it for me (grunge tbh isn't that great lol but to have been there must have been fantastic :D Exotic grunge).

The detail and cropping of the elephant is spot on :)

But mum and baby though is the best of the lot - friendship and respect in one shot :)

Welcome back :D

Thanks for the comments Dark Star - and looks like I missed something - well done on your green-ness!

Right, I have just entered this through the skin of my teeth - panic this morning I didn't have anything, went outside to photography the pegs with spider webs in the fog, but they were carp - when on my way back in saw my clients ash-tray, so off I snapped.

PLEASE don't comment on the horizon - I knowwwww!

Anyway, here is 'Fresh Start'[oh and also don't comment on the watermark I KNOW it's too distracting, I've given up on PS for the moment because I can't get it to do what I want *sob*]

That second friendship shot was definitely worth waiting for!
Absolutely brilliant.
Try a bit of a contrast boost, but I think it looks great just the way it is. Really, really love it

"Fresh Start" . . . that could almost have doubled up for grunge, but for a spur of the moment shot it fits very nicely with the theme.
Good composition and very nicely focused. (as requested I'm not going to comment on the watermark ;))

p.s. I'm glad you mentioned cobwebs - that's at least one person who won't think mine is too far off theme this week!

Ahhhhh - mother and baby shots are always lovely, but this takes some beating. Beautiful, beautiful shot. I hope you're getting it printed, very large. The pp suits it imho. You must be really thrilled with this.:clap::clap:

Fresh Start: Seven (or is it 8) of them, in fact. I think even smokers consider full ashtrays are yucky. A fresh start is definitely called for.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found this theme difficult - you've done well to get it in, and on time, and btw - what watermark????? ;)

Jean

Jean, can't say I counted the cigs  they're not mine, I don't smoke, tis my clients, and yes it is a nasty habit :p

I am indeed getting the pic printed, wasn't gonna go large, cos I have another pic I absolutley love I was gonna get done big, will prob get this done of equivalent of A4, maybe a little less - never printed anything before!!

WILL look at other people's threads later, am busy travelling home today and need to get things sorted.

Leanne, that's a corker of a shot with the mother and baby, excellent, well taken, and covers so many different themes in one go. I'm glad you decided to post it.

Well grabbed for Fresh Start, the table is a little wonky :D... I hope that they are going to take a fresh start... That image would have fitted grunge so well too.

Catch up time...

Mono: Really like the idea and the composition but like others I'm not sure about the focus point... and the nokiN logo ;)

Season: I think it's a lovely dog shot - the only thing I'd say is that it needs the story behind it. Maybe if it were more obvious that it is a paddling pool (or you added some summer props!) it would be more fitting.

Let me just say at this juncture - I'M SO JEALOUS THAT YOU GOT TO GO ON SAFARI!

Right, got that off my chest...

Grunge: Not nearly grungy enough :p

Respect: I really like the wonky hozizon and quirky composition - it's kind of makes it fun but you can't help but have respect for an elephant.

Friendship: I think it is the weakest of the three... but you got to go on safari and take pictures of lions which is amazing. I feel my jealousy is imparing my ability to comment objectively :D

I want to see the mother and baby elly too - please?

EDIT - you've already posted it... and a beautiful shot it is too! Great composition - I think you are right that you might be able to improve it with a bit more contrast but I'd be well chuffed with it as it is.

Fresh Starts: Nice interpretation of the theme and the detail is good... don't know if you'd noticed that the table is a bit wonky though? :p:D

Now there's an interpretation I wouldn't have thought of! Probably because I don't smoke. You know what's wrong with it and it's easy enough to correct. A good idea.

Major catch up from me

Season - didn't say season to me but how many times have I crow barred in a picture that only fits the theme because of the wordsd behind it :D

It's a really good picture that you should be proud of

Grunge - see above, what a great sight that must have been. But to call them little is a bit misleading. We had one rush through our garden here and it took our 2 pergolas with it. They were tied together, every corner was held down by a paving stone on top of which was a breezeblock filled with sand and then a heavy pot with a plant in, and they sailed over the fence like feathers, leaving destruction in their wake!

Respect - the elephant on it's own is great, but the mother and baby together is absolutely stupendous - and like everyone else - jealous, who, me, jealous .... never

Friendship - I wouldn't want to get any closer to them than you did ;)

Fresh Start - good representation of the theme, and a couple of easily put rightable problems

So overall, some really good shots from you, and well done for keeping with it on holiday

Bruja, thanks  I usually wing it with words :P

Oh and we did get closer to the Lions, they started off less than a metre from the jeep, lying down.... this was them as they were on the move afterwards :P

Well spotted shot, and works a treat for this weeks theme...:clap::clap:

I thought along the same lines to start with but I don't smoke so I would had had to walk the streets looking for fag ends...:gag:

You got the shot I had in my head so that a big... from me...

Well done on a theme that had me stumped (apologies for the pun) and you had it nailed. from me

Excellent fresh start shot! Nice slant on the theme. I used to smoke, gave up last March/April. Thankfully I grew to hate them before deciding to bin them, so I understand how bad they were, and how awful I smelt.

And b****r the couple of flaws, I say excellent photo

The elephants are fantastic
I like the idea behind fresh start and personally i like the watermark (it just needs to be more discreatly located imo).

Righto - You knw the buggering thing aboutthis? The day before I left for work, I was grocery shopping with my mum, and I came across passion fruits and said 'ooh, may sound stupid can I use these for a photography task' she said 'yeah but they won't be ripe any time soon' and still put them in the basket %$@&^$*( - What good is that to me. SO, a passon fruit shot was out the window and I was stumped.......

Until my saving graces appeared today, in the form of two cats! NOT a shot I'm proud of, but it was something on theme I was just grateful to have managed to grab! The two cats sharing a passionate moment....Everyone say 'awwwwww'

Sorry for the flash, my flash has decided to not fire[and isn't a battery issue, yet still works when the test button is pushed] so had to use onboard for this :(

Awwwww ... ;)

They looked relaxed and comfortable together. It's a nice shot, with good details. Shame about the flash, I hope it's nothing serious

Hah! Cute :) Nice photo too. Would have liked a little more of the left guy, but all the same there's still something I really like about it
