My 52 - Updated *Week 30 - Colour*

love the wealth shot is really different. crowds is well out of the box but the colours are fantastic. glad you got the dslr it really shows although the shot with the compact is really clever.

cant wait to see what your next one will be

Catch up time:

The 2nd wealth shot imho is the better of the two and those shadows are quite amazing - I too thought they were slots :) Cleverly done and well lit :)

Your identity shot is interesting...took a few looks to get my head round it though!

The paper being unprocessed against the solarised(?) image works well for me but I wonder if it needs that solarised effect? Love to see a 'clean' version!

This theme is creating more varieties than most so far :)

Well done! :)

For some reason the paper didn't process :dunno: I wanted the whole image to change, but the paper did nowt, no matter what saturation/contrast I gave to the image.

Here's the original

I had cloned out the embroiding on the hoody.

Thanks for the comments, guys

Thanks for posting the original Shorty.

The processing you've done lifts it out of the ordinary I think and into a more mysterious image (if you get me :))

Did you consider doing a face on shot rather than angled up? That might have been interesting!

Again thanks for obnliging with the original :)

I did a face on too, I took about 6 shots all with a slight different angle, not sure the face on came out alright but I'll take a look :) cheers

The processing definitely lifts it from the original shot. The paper not processing seems to have left it as a point of focus rather than the face. I'm guessing but if you processed the paper to be a darker colour, say grey, would it then get processed and become more part of the image. I like the take on the theme.

Wealth is interesting. I wonder if it would be improved by a wider depth of field.

Identity I like quite a lot. Nice idea. I would like to see a landscape or square crop shot to lose somme of the empty black area at the bottom. I quite like the processing on it

I like the processed version of identity it works much better than the original, great idea :)

Thanks for the comments guys :D
Am going to peer at this weeks task!

I am warning you, over the next couple of weeks my themes will HAVE to include dogs, as I am living on site at a rescue centre for two weeks! :P

OK, there I was, looking at this weeks theme and I was like yeaaaah, I'm smug I know what to do, easy peasy. I took the shot, and as time and clicks of the shutter went on I felt less n less enthusiastic. I'm now at the point where I have looked back at the two shots I took. And I actually really dislike them. But since this week is rushed for me and I have no idea when I would be able to get the time I am just submitting these.

I have also realised there was a learning theme early on so this is I'm certain something that was in there :bang:

Oh well.
And I'm cheeky posting two, but really cannot decide which I like better AND I KNOW it's a very soft photo, lighting was carp and I was on a motivation high so couldn't care at the time.

Anyway....Here's my week 10.

And I know, count how many excuses I used above *rolls eyes*

Hopefully I'll be able to get a shot for the next 2weeks while I'm away!

Identity - yet another different take on the theme, and I prefer the processed version, it has more impact somehow. I'd like to see a square version of this to see less of the balck at the bottom.

Wisdom - I prefer the look of the first one but find the stuff at the top of the screen a little distracting though. Good try though on a tight time budget - and it covers the Learning theme as well.

:agree:

Thanks for comments :)

I had tried to PS the background, but once again my skills *lacked*, will maybe have a go once I'm back at home.
Thing also that annoys me with 1, is the soft focus on it, even wide open not too much difference was had, but that's more than likely a faux pas on my half!

It's a good take on the theme - wisdom is often found in books and the knowledge in books leads (hopefully) to wisdom.

I prefer the first one, with the stuff at the top cropped out, and the dof works well for me. Well done for getting this posted when you're so busy.:clap:

I hope the next two weeks go well - and shall look forward to seeing some photos when you're able to post them up. :)

Jean

I like the composition of the first image better than the second and the DOF in the first image is great. As others have said the stuff in the background (mac mouse?) is distracting TBH you really should have noticed this in the viewfinder and moved it :nono: ;) :D (don't worry we all do it ). I also find that both images are quite dark, I suspect this is because the white paper confused the camera's metering, I think it could have been happily over exposed by at least 1.5 stops. In time these technicalities will come naturally to you and are easy to learn. However, I think you showing a great creativity that not only is much harder to learn many technically great photographers never achieve

P.S. Go an enjoy your "away" you deserve it

Says it all for me, well done

I'm not sure I can add much to what's been said. I prefer the first, the angle and DOF work well, except for the stuff at the back. I do that a lot :bang: so it's not like I can talk :D. If you can't move it/arrange it so that there's space there, then maybe put a piece of card over it to cover the clutter up and make it look blank.

Thanks very much for those comments, info taken in :) will perhaps add an edit.

Should have this weeks task submitted today, if things go to plan! - Will be boring though, sorry.

Like those above the composition of #1 appeals most to me :) Perhaps a little 'grey' and lacking a little punch (up the contrast maybe?) but a great concept and meets the week's theme very well :)

Good luck in your 2 weeks and I'm sure you won't be boring with your next shot :D Looking forward to it :D

Right, this is cute, and fairly boring. But I actually have about 5pics to choose from, and am finding it hard. But I'll settle for this one now.

OK, I told you it'd be dogs, and my first thought was 'photograph the puppy who came from the pound yesterday in with the lab, and their relationship except. When I went into the pen with them today. He erm, got, rather, erm. attached lol. SO, here are majority of what my pics look like from today as he was so attached to me all I got was his pleading, loving face

Ahh... I agree, he does look like he needs some TLC in relationships. Shame about the nose, I can't quite decide about the eye, it looks nice and sharp around the edge, but I think the reflection in it confuses things a little.

Thanks very much for the comments guys, I know what you mean, and can see the faults in it now.

This was the picture I was tossing it up with....I still don't know which one I prefered so did a quick choice.

It's a good try on your first shot...just needs a bit more focus.

The second one don't work so well...the heavy shadow is not good...

And here it is. Poverty. I'm fairly happy with the shot, but the conversion to B+W I'm not sure I have chosen the best balance, alas, I have my shot.

At first I panicked at this task, but then an idea popped into my head to photograph the empty water buckets/bowls there are/were/may be in the dog pen at the rescue I'm at. So I did

A sad reminder to those of us who have pets, that not all animals can take simple things like a bowl of clean water for granted.

I think black and white suits the bleak subject very well. I'd have given it a touch more contrast (but I like b&w contrasty). Did you crop this? If so, I wonder if a wider crop would put the empty bowl more into context? Just a thought.

I hope those puppies are doing well. :)

Jean

:agree: I think the conversion has worked well, and it's a good result. I think it needed the B&W.

It deff did need the B+W. For sure. Shall up the contrast tonight :D

This isn't a crop, no, is as is. I had a couple of other shots, but I didn't think they showed the point very well.

The puppies are doing really well, I am back home now, and last night the fosterer gave me a ring[to say goodbye] and updated me by telling me they are now, at not even 4weeks old, starting to lap up meat! And typically, one of them fell flat on his face in the food.

I will be getting regular piccy/worded updates on those guys.

Thanks very much for the comments both of you

I like it and the B&W works well for the subject....

it's a bit too much of a tight crop to do it justise for me...

but it fits the themes well so well done...

I completely agree with these comments. I like the crop, because it makes me focus on the texture of the bowl, and if you hadn't told me it was a dogs bowl, I would have thought it might have been a bowl/carrier from a third world country as it has that kind of feel to it.

nice!!

Im with Jean on the contrast and crop , good idea though.

Right, this hasn't been a good week for me at all :( I have a very bad lurgy which includes tonsillitis :( So therefore this week's task has suffered, although it's not exactly like there's brilliant shots that have been missed, mind

So anyway, I struggled with this, I was originally gonna do my cat jumping up to catch the flies in the nice weather, but a combination of dodgy focus and haze from the sun has meant those were not very good.
So, when I was trying to photograph plan B - my parrot flying up I thought to myself, hang on, looked up and took.......this:

Hopefully I'll be feeling marginally better in-time for next weeks task
