My 52 Photos of the year!

This one is pretty if a little dull.

Cheers Stuart

Sorry I've not popped in for a while Stuart... Is your thread in Andy's list ?

Anyway.. love the colours and reflections in the building.

The tree had a possibility to go way OTT, but you've done a good job on it, and I like the glow the leaves had.

That flower looks to be glowing with an internal light, good effect and it works well

Chillin, they sure look like it ;)

Like the waterfall, just the right amount of blur on the water. The sky looks rather a bit too much, and personally, I think I'd be tempted to crop it out.

Cheers for the supporting comments.

I am on Andys list I'm fairly near the bottom of it though! I'm not sure if it ranked by skill! :D

I'm not going to complian about not getting any comments because I find it very hard to comment on other peoples photos. I have to say I apprachate all the effort you go into of looking at all these photos people are taking! :D

Stuart

It can't be by skill, cos that would put me about the middle, and I'm not that good ...

I recall seeing that image somewhere, I think I may have commented on it already... I really like it. The blur of the train, works well, and I'm surprised at how well they've acted as mirrors too, given the motion. well done.

Here is a highly dorky one. The mirror in the image is made by me. the glass is 45mmX25mm and is 170 micons thick. It as then had 10nm of Titanium coated on one side and then 100nm of Platiunm! So its not cheap!

The image is of the keyboard on my mobile phone.

The Blacksmith has captured a moment of deep concentration, it's clear from the face and expression. There's a few highlights that have been clipped, I think in the contrast boost I think you gave it... I do like it though

That's one delicate mirror, and would probably make a wonderful secondary in a newtonian reflector as I bet it's lightweight. I can well imagine the cost though... It's an intriguing image, although I do wonder how you mounted it. I'm not sure what those things are in the background, but I'm finding them a little distracting as is.. perhaps with them symmetrical either side of the mirror would help frame it nicely...

Thats the wonderful thing. Those "things" are object lenses for the two photon microscope, They are not behind the mirror but in fact the mirror is in between them! But the distance between the Keypad and the mirror has to be added to the focusing distance. Hence why the edges of the mirror is are not sharp, the mirror is out of focus as well!

I know its a truly geeky image! :D

Gotcha... :D... very clever.

You have took really very nice pictures. I think that You have well experienced in the photography. So that You have set good contrast and also brightness of the photos. I hope that You will come with more photos as well.

Stuart, that's done the job nicely and looks well exposed. Love the sky behind it. It's hard to tell from the skyline silhouette as I can't see what's going on, but there's an angle there... that looks like it could do with a straighten.

(My main computer has gone down so I am using Photobuckets compression and it is rather savage hence the soft photo)

Hi Stuart,

Just seen this thread for the first time and am impressed with the variety of images and your willingness to try new things. This project certainly seems to be motivating you - keep it up! :)

Hi Stuart
just found this and keep shooting  you get out more than me.

I may try this soon

Keep it up mate there are some great shots here. Like the BBC building in particular.

I might have to try something like this. Get me out a bit more with the camera!

Think I will have to subscribe to this thread, help motivate me to get out myself! ;)

love the 52 so far :D

Hi Stu,

Broadband problems stopped me getting on here at all last night, but I've had chance to have a good look through your thread this afternoon.

Far too many to go back and comment on them all, but I'll pick out a few of my favourites.

I'm really drawn to the shot from your Manchester conference.
I love the silhouette of the trainers on the wires, and there's a very nice contrast with the slick modern building in the b/g. The way that you've caught the sunburst peaking around the edge of the building is also a brilliant finishing touch.
I'm not feeling that the foreground is adding much though. It's too dark to make out any real detail and although the wires with another set of trainers on the lower LHS is good, I don't think you need it.
For me, crop this just above the building lower left; clone out the street lamp and the bit of lens flare and it's a definite winner

Man with passing train (4th June) jumps out for me too.
Not a thing I'd change with this one.
Strong composition with those heavy steel girders above leading from the upper corners into the shot. Perfect amount of motion blur. Just enough to make out the movement, but the train windows and reflections are still very distinct.
What really makes it work for me though is the colour pallette. Blue and red seem to be completely dominant and these two colours seem to hold the components of the image together while directing my eye around the shot.

Finally, I love the shot of the crow. Very simple, but very, very effective.
I'm afraid I can't be any more constructive than that. It's one of those shots that I just like without really being able to articulate why.

Anyway, they were just a few that stood out for me. IMO there are some other very strong shots there too.
In fact, I don't think there were many that I didn't like in terms of subject and concept although perhaps a few of them could have been a little sharper.
I hope you keep this up for the rest of the year . . . and now that the number of themed 52s is decreasing, I'll try to keep up to date with this one.

Stuart, you've got a good eye for an image. I like your 52, with stand out images for me BBC building and the shoes over the telephone lines? Keep it up, I will definitely be looking in more often. Iain

Well you can look in more often if you want but I'm still only posting an image on a Friday! :D

Cheers for the feed back. I'm not sure if I will go back and make the edits, or keep them for future reference, as my computer broke I have been swapping my photos between my laptop and a back up computer I have suddenly released how much of a difference between monitors there could be! I am now waiting for my heuy pro before I attempt to fix photos! :D

Stuart

Sorry I haven't commented before but I have been concentrating on the themed 52s and until recently there were an awful lot of us.

You have a lot of good shots here. I particularly like the first two, the BBC, the jackdaw (not a crow/rook), the model shot and the blacksmith. Sorry not to go into more detail - too much to catch up on - but better than nothing....

Stu, Sorry... I've been slack again... Must try harder (sounds like my old school report...;)) excellent last few shots... whilst photobucket might have blitz that shot of Masy with the compression, I really like it... the DOF works well... Intrigued and intent baby stare...

the jackdaw (not a crow/rook),

 I stand corrected.
I'm completely useless at bird i.d.'s. Glad that one of us knows what they're looking at

;) And that explains why I missed this thread for so long!
By Thursday I've normally worked my way round most of the themed 52s and tend not to look back in here until a Sunday when I update my thread . . . I'm guessing that between Friday and Sunday you've probably dropped to the second page.

Changing your posting day to a Sunday will probably help to get this noticed more.

It was taken a massive one mile from my home!
you take it easy now stuart.

nice set of images keep it up.

Ian

Not perfect you can see the edges of the polarizer filter! I'm quite busy just now but hopefully I will get a chance to tidy it up during the week,
