My idea is to cycle some where in south Lanarkshire every weekend and photograph it so that I can get some exercise. I tried joining the gym but they complain bitterly when I try to practice my photography!

I thought I would post the results here.

So here is my first photo. I would have liked to start with a cool dramatic one but its quite rubbish really! I supose I'm doing this so I can get better!

It was taken a massive one mile from my home! :D

Looks very 'Christmassy' with the red/green and frost - good start.

Cheers Guys

Its a 52 not a 365. My life is far to dull for a 365! "and here is the computer where I program matlab taken from a slightly higher perspective" :D

Plus a 365 would get you far too fit! :D

Great start to your 52!

Agreed, Godd Start - Very Christmassy as Andrew said :D
Keep it up :)

Well This week has been manic and all I managed where some portraits at the pub! So I'm posting this image that I took a couple weeks ago! Helpfully I will be back on track next week.

hi stuart only just seen your thread really like the last image cracking light trails the only thing i can see is the roof line and box on the bridge just draw the eyes a bit personally i would just crop the image slightly

Cheers

yes I've been trying diffrent crops.

I think I will go back there next week and get some more images. Hopefuly some of the trains coming and going from the staition as well.

Cheers Stuart

Some good stuff so far stuart!

Really like the trails shot but I think you need to zoom in/crop a bit more, seems a little too much going on in the frame...

Look forward to seeing more from you!

Very busy week this. I've only had time to take this portrait in the pub!

On a more dorky side I have installed a katzeye. I would strongly recommend one, even if you only use auto focus

Stuart, sorry I missed your thread... there's some really good shots in here... the light trails are really good... I like the Heron/Penguin  The person on the bench... as you say, shame she moved, but I like it. The Pan I'm not sure on... there doesn't seem to be enough sharp. The portrait looks good, shame about the hair being blown out, although it looks like the lighting was really tough...

All the images seem a bit soft... I suspect that they looked good on your monitor when you were processing them ? If so, then I think you might be suffering from jpg compression... What jpg settings are you using on save, and are you resizing before upload, or letting photobucket do it post upload ?

Aaaaa! thank you! I will repossess the shots and leave the jpg compresstion off and see if that fixs everything.!

Cheers for the reply. The Porsche was a bit of an impromptu shot and the VR was still on.

I've been sick as a parrot this week so I have not been carrying my camera about with me.

This was photographed a few weeks ago no the Robert burns memorial on gorge square. It is nearly a 100% crop

Edit I've also just noticed how savage photo buckets compression is. I may switch to another uploading site.

Still blighted by my illness (don't ask I've never been ill for this long in my life before.) I still have not "been" any where. But I have bought a Fuji S3 Pro! (Yuppee! the danguors of being board and having access to the internet!"

So I took this as I did a "test run" in the park this lunch time. It was set to "velvia" I can't make my mind up if I like this colour scheme.

Stuart, sorry just catching up...

80% man... that's a helluva lot of compression... What do those images look like without that compression amount ?

For nearly a 100% crop that's come out very nicely... I think the focus is on the outer rim of the petals, and I'm not sure that's really helping, but the colour is excellent, and the water drops add to it nicely.

As for photo buckets compression, resize before you upload... that way you're not relying on whatever the hosting site decides to use.

That shot of the fountain and church has worked very well... I think the colours fit nicely for that shot.

The fountain close up has good detail and I like the splash... but there's something .. not sure... it might be a little squiffy....

I hope you get better soon Stuart... I bet that's draining isn't it...

Cheers. The last three images have been resized to 800 pixels on the longest axis before the upload. But I'm still not convinced the photobucket doesn’t do some tweaking!

The rose is taken with my Voigtlander 58mm which is with out doubt my favourite lens but it is manual focus.

To be honest I don't like the last shot but it was literary the only shot I managed last week, I don't carry a tripod so it was taken by resting my 70-200mm on a cherubs head!

It turned out I was suffering from a virus and then got infected with tonsillitis However the medical profession have fixed me and I’m feeling better again! So tomorrow I and going to go togging after work and hopefully photograph something different and interesting! Not that fountain which as appeared in 3 out of the 12 images!

Thank you for the response.

I got the day off and ended up bumbling around Perth. It was a really grey and over cast day the threatened to rain. Answer Shoot black and white! :D

That Rose is smashing Stuart.

Oh that last one is really good! I tried that myself a few months ago, with very little luck ;).

I had a browse through your other pics, some really good ones in there!! I like the first one, with the frosted berries (or at least I think they're berries :D ), and the porsche is a good one as well. And..., ah well, they're all real good to look at!

I always get rooks and crows muddled up... it's a clear and well taken shot though...

The second looks good

Thank you for the comment jgs001

This week I've been playing with panoramas. definitely going to do more of them. I like the scrap book effect of this one. It is composed of 8 images.

It is a pity I had to compress it but the original is 28mb!

Sorry Stuart, I don't seem to have been here before. Some really nice shots, particularly the two birds. The feathered one has some fantastic tones in it. I like what you've been trying with the longer shutter speeds too, tricky to do but the tube shot has been pulled off well.

I'd be tempted to lose the black background on the latest shot. Maybe convert to a .png so you can have a transparent background for those viewing on different themes.

Keep it up

I've spent the entire week writing my end of year report for my PhD and my camera has not come out of its bag.

So here is an older shot.
