Hi there everyone

This is my very first post and I am very new to this site so please go easy on me. I having been doing photography for about 8 months now and I have a Alpha A550 camera and a set of Tamron Len's I propose to submit a single image every week as I do for my blog site and the aim is to gain feedback from the more professional photographers of you out there.

So here is week 1 (2010) "Ray Of Light"

I look forward to your comments and many thanks in advance for your time and help.

Jurgen

Welcome to the site, Jurgen. :)

It would be useful if you could post links to larger copies of your shots.

Well I'm not a professional photographer but I will leave some feedback if you don't mind :p

I really like the rays of light on the ice, they look great!
Personally, I'd also crop a little bit of the bottom off so you can't see quite as much grass so it draws more attention to the trees. I just think it's a bit distracting

And welcome to the site :)

WOW great I have some replies already, cool many thanks guys and as for the crop remark, I did think about that but I was wonderring about the need for foreground interest? many thanks for commenting though this is great!!

I agree with the above, don't think you need all the foreground....nice shot though...lovely scene!

Week 02

Hello and welcome back I trust you have all had a good week? well what terrible weather we are having! today myself and a couple of friends decided to venture over to snowy Lincoln of all places and it was shockingly bad and dismal so for the very first time I actually never even took my camera out of its bag and thus came home without a single shot! so this week's offering comes from a shot I grabbed on New year's Eve a simply pair of green eyes, the model in question is my Niece Keeley and I am sure you will agree with a little sharpening and skin softening with the aid of Photoshop and Lightroom they look quite amazing? I would like to try and get some Model photography done this year just to give it a go so if there are any willing people out there please do get in touch. well I hope you like "The Look" of Keeley and please please do send me your comments via the link on the website. I do hope this week see's the last of the snow and cold conditions and I wish you all a great week ahead, many thanks Jurgen.

Week 03

Coffee Apple
Week 03 - Hi and thanks for returning to see my image's this week has been a drab week what with all the snow and ice and nearly killing myself, so no real time for any outdoor photography so this week I thought I would try some indoor stuff and whilst rustling through the cupboard I stumbled across some coffee beans and tried several shot only to then discover a lonesome apple and I simply based this shot on the title that popped into my head "Coffee Apple" I used a mini light box type studio setup to create the lighting and then just sharpened my image a little in Lightroom. I could see this kinda shot in canvas on a kitchen / dining room wall maybe? anyway I quite like and I hope you do too. I cannot wait to hear your feedback on this rather different shot. have a great week everyone and thanks for taking the time to visit my blog yet again Jurgen.

Good day squire. Something a little different from you I see this week. I wonder if thats the same "mini light box type studio setup" that I have been using too! haha. Anyway I like this shot, the colour of the apple and the coffee beans really stand out against the grey neautral background. Also the large aperture works well and allows the coffee cup to fall out of focus in the background. Good work.

Week 04

Zara

Week 04 - Hello everyone I trust you all had a great week? well quite a good week all in all for me but alas not much time for photography but I did manage a little portraiture work on Thursday as my friend Zara kindly responded to my plea for a model for the evening, this shot came from that evening and with a little sharpening and a Lightroom filter applied I think it does just the job. Zara has agreed to complete a second photo shoot when we have more lighting at our disposal being as it was quite hard to do even with a external flashgun this time. well I hope you like the picture and as always I look forward to your critique. Have a good everyone and many thanks for taking the time to look and comment as always, Jurgen.

Week 05

Nelly

Week 05 - Hello, this week's image is from my back catalogue being as I simply have not had the time to get out and try and get some really great images! I did try on Sunday morning when I went with my friend to Hartington in the peak district but I was not that impressed with what I achieved (I guess we all get those days?) but after nearly crashing the car on the way up there due to black ice and thus causing us to skid for 300 yards and completing a full 180 degree turn I think that was enough excitement, plus when we got there it was full of snow!! anyway once again this image has had little done to it just a little sharpening within Lightroom and hey presto it's Nelly. well I have a busy week ahead with lots going on in and around home so I hope you all have a great week and thanks again for looking and feeding back as always Jurgen.

Week 06

Strollin

Week 06 - Hello and welcome back people, firstly my sincere apologies as I have done no photography this week at all! due to a lot of refurbishments happening within the home this week, but i am happy to say that the new bathroom and study / office almost complete now, and tomorrow I have new double glazing being fitted too yaah! so perhaps next week there will be a blog shot of some construction worker or something? (Nah I don't think so) but I will try harder as I need to get back into the swing of things. also last week I had a major issue with my blog site itself but again I am happy to report that after 48hrs myself and Andrew managed to get things back on track and please remember to bookmark the new web address. so with all that said here is this week's offering with yet another picture taken quite randomly at "Donna Nook" the 2 people in the shot are my friend Paul Watson and his mate Rob (Both Excellent Photographers to which I aspire to be in some time!) but as they stroll on you get this amazing colourful sky with the markings of what was a beautiful rainbow, again just neatened up a little in Lightroom for your viewing pleasure. many thanks guys and have a great week Jurgen

Week 07

Peek A Boo

Week 07 - Hello everyone, I trust you all had a great weekend? once again it has been incredibly busy for myself as there is lots of work happening at my home which is both good but at the same time frustrating in that I cannot seem to find the time to do some photography. I am having to base my blog shots on back catalogue stuff all be it most are images taken over the last 6 months. This week's image comes in the form of the little "Tia" a cute but rather restless Yorkshire terrier that would not hold still on this photo shoot I must have taken well over 150 shots only to get half a dozen good ones and here is a shining example for you with very slight basic adjustments made to the image. Well next week hold yet more decorating at my home so with the exception of going to the photographic club on Tuesday I think I will fall short of completing any Photography next week again!! I will be so glad once it's all done in about 2 -3 weeks time. so have a great week guys and remember send me your feed-back its always welcomed and appreciated, Jurgen.

Week 08

Somebody To Watch Over You

WOW! what a week, as the work continues at my home, I am very cream crackerred! this weekend saw me completely redecorating 2 bedrooms from scratch lay carpets and assemble furniture, every bone in my body screams in agony for sure. I have to say it was well worth the effort and things will hopefully be back to some kind of normality by next weekend? so then there will be time for photography Yaah! this week's image comes from the lovely York Minster as I saw this rather weathered statue looking over all the passersby and I thought that by adding some form of angle to the image it would add some kind of dynamic effect little else has been done to the image so I hope you all like it? right I am off to get a some sleep now as the sound of work is looming so please all take care and have a great week, thanks for revisiting and don't forget to leave feed-back. Jurgen

Jurgen,

It seems your 52 has dropped off everyone's radar for some reason. Some beautiful shots in here so far too. I'd have to pick out weeks 3, 4, 6 and 8 as my personal favourites.

Coffee Apple is beautifully lit and arranged with lovely colours from the apple offset against the rich browns of the coffee.

Zara is a lovely relaxed portrait. Some would probably find the hair across her eye distracting, but I think it adds a little coyness to her expression. Definitely more shots of Zara needed :)

Strollin is just perfect. Beautiful light and rainbow and the photographers have been caught perfectly to the left of the frame and you've managed to get so much detail from the water in there too. Beautiful image

Peek a Boo is just cute as hell :D

Will try to keep up with this in future, but apologies if you get missed. Might be an idea to change your thread title every week to declare an update by editing your first post and going to advanced edit. Good luck with the rest of the year

Week 09

Fan Art

Hello and welcome back well as I said this would be the final weekend of mass destruction within my home, and by Joe I think we have completed all that we wanted too? phew... so here is a little celebration picture that I snapped whilst in Stamford plain and simple but great colours and depth of field perhaps I could of hung around and caught them in motion? none the less I quite like the shot so I hope you do too? so onto the next week in this exciting calendar of events thus far into 2010, what will come next? well I certainly hope some more photography and with a little bit of luck and some good weather myself and my good friend will be heading out somewhere next weekend to get some images. I had better dust down the camera and charge the batteries! well thanks everyone for your kind comments thus far and please do keep them coming with .any idea's of imagery that you would perhaps like to see and I will endeavour to do my very very best. all the best Jurgen

Week 10

Decay

Welcome back everyone, may I just start by saying sorry as disaster struck a week last Saturday as my new PC gave up on me leeding me to send back my brand new shiny Motherboard and thus I have not been online and pretty grumpy to say the least! none the less this week I will be posting 2 images to make up for the weeks I have missed. this first one "Decay" was in actual fact taken just the other day whilst out and about on a short walk through Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham, a nice and simple shot with a touch of sharpening and the black and white treatment it kind of sums up how I was feeling last week as my beloved PC died on me. Oh well I am sure it will all be ok in the very end and at the moment I am working off my tiny little Netbook which will have to suffice until my broken PC parts come back to me hopefully within the next couple of weeks? I hope you like the image and now I had better get on with posting week 11's image as well. thankyou everyone for your continued support Jurgen

Life Through A Lens

Hello and welcome back, as I try to catch up here is this weeks image for you all, this was taken whilst I was at the "Focus On Imaging Show" last Sunday in Birmingham, I hadn't planned on taking any photographs this day I simply took my camera to perhaps try some new len's but whilst on the Sony Alpha stand there where a couple of talks by fashion photographers so I thought "Why Not!" so here is the delightful Kira again I have applied a little sharpening and the black and white treatment I think it works well and I personally like the angles and the lighting patterns behind Kira. I hope you like it and remember I am still looking for people to model so come on let's have some volunteers? again I must appologies for my absence over the past couple of weeks and as promised I have managed to upload 2 images so please remember to take a look at last weeks missing image titled "Decay" I will try to do my best to keep up over the next couple of weeks as I wait for my PC to be repaired. thank you everyone for all you comments and support and have yourselves a great week. Jurgen

Hi there DLH (Darren)

many thanks for your kind comments, I am very new to this Forum thing and am a little unsure of how to do things to maximise my target audiance, so any help would be much appreciated on both the photographic and forum sides.

As you can see I have been without a PC for a week or so now so its been harder to get these last two images up but I hope you like them and lets hope some other people spot them too....

all the very best and sorry for the very late reply.

Jurgen

Hi there Nattelie

many thanks for your comments its truly appreciated, as for the Line in the models head I totally af=gree but as my PC is currantly out of action I have been making my weekly post on my little NetBook laptop and I simply cannot run Adobe photoshop on it.

But I should be back up and running soon so please do keep in touch and I hope you like my upcoming images.

all the very best

Week 12

Down In The Country

Hello and welcome back everyone, I trust you have all had a good weekend and that you have all been out and about today whilst the sun has been shining? well I managed to make it up to sunny Hartington in Derbyshire today with my good friend Steve as he was gagging to try out his new Nikon D90, so off we poddled and I so needed to get some great shots, which I think I managed all be it I am struggling so very much to edit them within Lightroom whilst still only having the use of my poor little netbook, I hope to have my PC rebuilt this week? so things will be a whole lot easier then. so I have this glorious shot for you to marvel over a slight graduation at the top and some general sharpening and I think it looks great, but you guys are the judges so please feed-back your comments and have a great week. all the best as always Jurgen.

Week 12

I'm Still Standing

Hello people Great news! this week my PC is back up and running all be it I am still going through a bit of a dispute with the people that I bought my faulty part from, none the less it's great to be back in the land of the living with a much faster PC so this week's image comes from my trip to Hartington in Derbyshire I thought this loan tree trunk had quite literally stood the test of time and with added sharpness and the black and white treatment I think it looks great what do you think? thanks everyone for bearing with me over the last couple of weeks and I hope you enjoy this week's image. take care and have a great week ahead Jurgen.

Week 14

The Old Colliery

Hi there and happy Easter to one and all I do hope you have enjoyed your Easter break? well this week I bring you another blast from the past in this old colliery mine situated in old Bestwood village, I didn't have the best of weather to shoot this one so I went the black and white approach again but I think it works well in demonstrating the oldness and thus conjuring up thoughts for those bygone days. I hope to be back out and about over the next few weeks as I have been a little stranded over the past couple of weeks due to illness but none the less I hope you like the shot and I am getting quite excited about my trip to Glenn Co at the end of the month so keep a look out for some more landscapes soon. many thanks everyone and as always I await your fed-back, Jurgen

Week 15

Clinger

Welcome back everyone what a lovely weekend of fine weather we have had, and with this in mind it gave me the opportunity to join my good friend Anthony for a brisk walk around the Attenborough Nature Reserve and try and grab a few sneaky snaps of the wilderness, whilst on our way back to the car I caught this little "Clinger" as he was grabbing his own lift on Anthony. so off went the shutter several times and this is the best of a bad bunch really but I think it looks ok after a bit of gentle persuasion within Lightroom? well I hope you like the image and remember to leave your comments as its important to get feedback and inspiration from others by the sharing of thoughts... have a great week everyone bye bye for now Jurgen ..

Week 16

Dan

Hello and welcome back, this weekend we finally got some great weather so I managed to venture out on Saturday and had a quick stroll around town with my camera as I headed over to the photographic club for a skills day they where holding, all in all it was a great day and a big thank you goes out to Dan Billings and John Colmer ARPS DPAGB for their valued input into several differing subject matters within the photographic field. This weeks image is in actual fact Dan himself as he demonstrated to us the art of outside portrait photography (so I hope he doesn't mind?) now to add to the mood again I have gone for black and white and have adjusted the tonal levels to the best of my understanding in accordance to what John was saying on Saturday and I have darkened the back down a little too leaving just enough contrast to produce what I feel to be a great shot? so... your thoughts please everybody? and I still need some volunteers for modelling so please contact me should you be at all interested and have yourselves a great week, see you all soon regards Jurgen.

Week 17

Fresh And Fruity

4551125452_08af8c8db6_o.jpg

Well here we are again and no sooner do you know it we are all back at work! the weekends are just not long enough.. well this weekend saw me with a few more I.T issues so this left little time to get out and about and I didn't want to use back catalogue pictures as I can save those for a rainy day, so with that in mind I forced myself out into the back garden and set up this shot, I hope you like it as I think it demonstrates what this sun does to us and gives a sense of cheerfulness? all I did to take the shot was pre focus on a half cut down plastic bottle of 10p sparking Tesco water and I used a blue bathroom towel draped over a kitchen chair, and then simple dropped the strawberry into the water whilst holding the trigger on my remote. I did as you can imagine take a load of shots to get this one! i really could do with a large flat sided glass container if anyone has one I would gladly like to borrow it. well please leave me some feedback and have a great week everyone and I am off to sunny Glencoe on the weekend so lets hope for some stunning shots! all the best Jurgen

Wow.... Some beautiful shots in this thread and I've completely missed it.

If you want a bit more visibility can I suggest:

- Reply to this thread asking for your name to be added to the list of "Personal" 52's.

- Add a link to this thread in your signature

- Bung a couple of comments on other people's 52's. I know I tend to at the very least comment on 52's who comment on me. Not so much a "you scratch my back" as a "thankyou for looking".

- Change the title of your thread to include the word "52" somewhere. That way, other 52'ers might pop in if they know what to expect.

There is a really good mix of talented photographs in here. Portrait, landscape, macro... You do have skill with a camera. I can't go through and comment on them all, but the shot in post #17 would definitely benefit from the removal of that line coming out of the model's head!

Will try to revisit!

Ian.

Week 18

In Bloom

ello everyone I hope you are all enjoying you bank holiday? well I have had to schedule this weeks upload on Friday as I am currently up in what hopefully will be sunny Glencoe in Scotland? so this week I have fallen back to a shot I took about 3 weeks ago whilst walking around the Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottingham, it's a floral shot and that's about all I can say as I have no idea what flower it is being as I am useless at those kinda things, but no doubt someone out there will tell me what they are? I just like the composition in this one and the colour with a good separation between the two colours and great loss of depth of field that coupled with a touch of sharpening I believe this to be a good example. OK well as I said its Friday morning now as I write this post so I am just about ready to set off so here is praying for some great weather when we get to Scotland and then hopefully some stunning photography this weekend? take care everyone and keep those comments coming all the very best Jurgen.

Week 19

Buachaille Etive Mor

Hello and welcome back, This weeks image comes from my long awaited trip to Glen Coe in Scotland last weekend, It was four days of fun with my three friends and all in all the weather held up reasonably well with only Saturday being a a bit of a washout. well what can I say about Glen Coe other than its simply Beautiful and I would love to go back during the changing seasons to get a better feel for the place. I must have taken 500 - 600 images so be sure there will be some more posted on my blog in the coming weeks as and when I get time to edit the images. This first one was taken on the last morning of our stay and I took it upon myself to get up yet again at the unearthly hour of 4AM to venture outside to about 200 yards from the hotel car park and then simply set-up my stall with filters attached and waited for the light to hit the side of this magnificent and very childlike traditional triangular mountain WOW! I do believe it looks amazing. but do you? so thanks again guys and let's have some of that feedback seeing as last week was such a washout, I am guessing no one really likes flowers? OK take it easy and see you all next week Jurgen

4591685618_e216b7ff35_o.jpg

Very nice shot, and worth getting up early for.

Lovely composition that has some great foreground interest as well as a magnificent subject.

I'd be tempted to add some punch as it looks a little flat to me. Maybe a bit mroe contrast, or a bit mroe saturation. I'm not sure what, or even if it needs anything. Just seems like such a majestic vista should "jump" out of the screen/print at you.

Ian.

Week 20

Fields Of Gold

Hi there people and welcome back well not much of a weekend to say the least as I was working on Saturday but alas what a great day Sunday was for weather, so I managed to get out with my friends Andrew and Sharon for a stroll in the countryside and managed to bag this lovely filed of Dandy's we had to sneak through a fence to get the shot but i think it was well worth it with this very low down shot a little sharpening and colour toning and WOW! I do hope you like it as I didn't want to post up another of my shots from Glen Coe but watch this space as there is to be some stunning ones that I have been working on. I hope you all have a great week ahead and as always I look forward to your feed back Jurgen

Week 21

Away With The Fairies

Week 21 - WOW what a scorcher his weekend has been! I am so red and aching from head to toe as I have had a busy weekend with lots of walking! this shot came from Saturdays outing to Mam Tor in the peak district where I hooked up with some good friends and walked for miles. lots of great shots and there will be more to come on the blog perhaps in coming weeks this one was taken as inspiration hit me and my budding assistant had to go through many Dandelions. I hope you like the shot as I think it follows on quite nicely from last weeks summery feel? Sunday was great too as again I hooked up with more friends and we headed out locally to Wollaton Park and surrounding area's where again I think I have a few great shots so watch this space everyone. well I hope you all have a great week and please let it cool down a little being as I am so red now! cheers everyone and as always thanks for taking the time to look and feed-back Jurgen.

Week 22

Loch Etive

Welcome back and I trust you are all having a great Bank Holiday? well I couldn't resist any more so am now posting the second image fro my trip to Glen Coe and also my first image that has had a little HDR treatment so I hope you all like it? I have printed this one off as well and its simply stunning from the moody sky to the almost individual grains of sand in the foreground, so a big thumbs up from me to the HDR treatment. please let me know your thoughts as always and I hope you enjoy this image as mush as I do, have a great few days off everyone and I will see you back here next week. Week 23

Driving Passion

Hi there everyone well I trust you have all had a hot and sticky weekend? I managed to get out on the Mountain bike on Saturday with my brother for a 15 mile cycle and then a long walk in the afternoon with my good friend Steve armed with my camera but alas I took not a single shot! so this week’s image is something a little different from my back catalogue and its somewhat of an almost commercial shot that could have come straight out of the car manufacturers brochure, but I like it as its very colourful and shows a sense of motoring passion coupled with the very letterbox presentation I believe it works well and I hope you do too. Well thanks again for any feed back that comes from this week’s image and I hope you all have a great week ahead. All the best Jurgen.

Jurgen, I'm really sorry, I've managed to totally overlook your thread... there are some amazing images in here. Really well done on them. I shall try and pop in from week to week.

Faeries, excellent fun shot, being really picky, the highlights on the side of her face look a little over, but that's very minor and I had to look for it.

Loch Etive, very nicely processed, it does look a little HDR'ish but it's been very well done and not over the top, just right

Driving, nice bit of panning, it works very well, and the wide view format fits really well.

Week 24

Green Fields Of Lowdham

Hi there thanks for coming back to check out this week’s blog shot, I hope you all had a great weekend I myself have been a little ill of late so again have not really had a chance to get out and about so this week’s image comes from a walk I took around Lowdham in Nottingham and again it looks bright and fresh with a sumptuous amount of greenery to get you into that summer mood. with a little cropping and simply tone and sharpness adjustments I think this looks great, perhaps even another windows desktop wallpaper for your computer? Sorry the blog has gone up late this week but as i said I haven’t been too well of late but here’s to the road to recovery and thanks again everyone, take care now Jurgen.
