Has anyone experienced a similar thing with their white Macbooks, I've had the top case replaced already under warranty when it cracked before.

Now it's cracked again and this time strips of plastic has broken away from the edge, on the right side of the machine, 1 on the edge of the palm rest and 1 near the hinge :(

worst laptop case I have had mate. Had a new bottom and top case, not I too have two strips missing from edge of palm rest.

What is annoying is that I have a £250 netbook which has no case issues, but my £800 macbook has had numerous.

I too have a netbook, it's been through everything, from being dropped to being left on for hours but it's absolutely rock solid, no issues what so ever :)

the macbook by contrast has had the best treatment, it lives in a dicota rainproof backpack and yet it's falling apart :(

The Macbook's top case is its weak point. The 2 raised strips on the top of the display bezel are too hard and crack and splinter the top case front either side of the trackpad. Apple cover the warranty replacement of the top case w/keyboard if it is cracked along the front, but only for up to 3 years from the original date of purchase. The current white Macbooks are of a different design and don't/can't suffer from this problem.

quite so indeed,
they're are the unibody design in which the top case and the bottom case are one piece. :)

the other thing that doesen't help the older macbooks is the magnets that keep the lid closed, they're very strong

Take it back again and they should swap it for free. I've had the top case replaced for the 2nd time on my 4 year old macbook last week. No questions asked in the apple store. Left it with them for 40 minutes.
All good again.:)

No way! I've put up with this for years on my MacBook because I was under the impression that it was out of warranty and they'd do nothing about it?

Book a genius appointment online for your local apple store. If they have the top case in stock they generally do it there and then.

thats interesting as I thought my 4 year old macbook was now out of warranty
:)

Apple are pretty good when it comes to things like that, thought I was going to have to buy a replacement Timecapsule when mine died after 18 months, a quick call to Applecare and I had a new one heading out to me FOC.

Wow, mine has suffered twice from this, and has a crack as well now. I'm going to ask them if they would, as I'm fed up with the stupid tech guys having it for 4 weeks

thanks for the replies,

all things considered, i'm going to order the top and bottom casing and fix it myself :)

ifixit guides come in handy :D
