Hi all,

I've been asked to photograph the girls at my friends Hairdressing Salon (located within a modern hotel) tomorrow, should be able to use one of rooms with lots of natural light (just as well as I only have the built in flash on my 40D), have a choice of 17-85mm kit lens, 70-300 and 10-22 if required.

She has asked for a range of 'informal' shots so I was wondering the best way of approaching this technically and getting the best from the staff.

Any hints would be very appreciated

Cheers

Sorry was that hints or tints?:)

I'd take a few really wide's with the 10-22 as you can get some great sweeping shots that way. Then make use of the mirrors for effective closeups.

Thanks for that Neo - I'll let you know how I get on.

Out of interest how do you find your 24-105 on the 40D - would it be a worthy upgrade over my 17-85?

Cheers

Keep an eye on the mirrors for things you do not want to be seen (ie you) have a good look in the viewfinder/screen and check the corners. It's easy to get carried away with the situation and forget to look carefully at what you're actually taking.

Not so much a biggy with digital, but on film, things like that could be a disaster.

One of the reasons schools and colleges use film rather than digital, it teaches you to actually look at what you are taking!

Good luck!

Yes do that...

24-105 is clearly the best walkaround lens I've ever used. It's extremely sharp for a non prime, and the range is perfect on a crop sensor. Highly recommended.
