Daily MWHCVT(Matt's) - The Year of the Thousandth

Nice one Matt, I'm the same, not godly, but love church architecture.

Thanks Sarah, I think that we're really lucky in some of the things like old churchs that we've got in the UK

Matt

This works really well in mono - really enjoying seeing all the snow shots today (we don't have any... yet)

Thanks Lynn, hope you get a little bit of snow  or not if you don't actually want it ;)

Day 15 - What a Tit :naughty:

So with the impending madness that is Chris's annual Whipsnade meet upon us this Saturday I've had to hire in a lens, since my sigma threw a little bit of a wobbler, that said it seems to be working correctly again at the moment, but this is one of my first photo's at 600mm and still quite a crop using the Sigma 120-300/2.8 and a Canon 2x TC I think it's best that I get a little bit of practice in with this beast of a lens

Looks like a good effort to me  Ive just brought a x1.7 TC from the classified in preparation for Saturday... oh, and a Thermos flask

Nice - the longest lens I've ever used was a borrowed 18-200 - and that was taking photos of lions lying down - a bit easier lol! I'd love a 70-200 2.8 sometime...

It should be a lot of fun, I might just have to pack a flask or two myself, maybe with some nice tomato soup  glad that you like it :D

Thanks to be honest long lens are usually wasted on me, only a small percentage of my time is spent with longs on, I use my long lens more for photo's of the moon than for wild stuff, but it does make a nice change :D

nice one, i have trouble finding things in my 300mm lens let alone 600 haha

:D I'm glad you like it  my biggest issue is lens shake :suspect: boy they move a lot at 600mm

Yesterdays photo is beautiful, Matt - nicely composed and really well processed

I really like today's as well, particularly how his legs are positioned on those branches :)

Thanks Sam, pleased that you like them both :D he did kind of straddle the two twigs :D

Very nice :)

Glad you like it :D

haha yea was thinking of getting 2x converter for mine might have to work on my steady hands that haha

Yeah it's worrying how much I was shaking I think it will take me a couple of days to get used to this lens it's very heavy, that or I'll just go into town and get a monopod

Nice tit :)

But, I feel that it's tail is in better focus than it's face :(

I'm not sure :shake: when I reviewed the focus point it was bang on his eye, but I think I may need to learn about the AFMA that or stop the lens down a little, not totally sure and what's best for the combination of lens and TC

Keep practicing then :D I used a 70-300 at Whipsnade and it was fine.

Then Chris lent me his 70-200 :'( I'm now ashamed of the first attempts a shame, as they were posing so nicely when I had my crappy lens on

I bet :( I've had that too, a friend last night said I could have borrowed is Canon 300/2.8 for the trip, I don't think that would have been healthy for my bank account :suspect: and indeed lots of practice this week

Nice shot of the Tit Matt, practise makes perfect , how you finding your new toy

Thanks Vince as to how I've finding it, initial impressions are bloody hell it's heavy  but it's seems very impressive

You caught it well Matt. What happened your big Sigma? I have 1 too, it probably doesn't get enough use.

I was having some serious issues with getting dodgy focus issues but in hindsight I think it may actually have been me, I was shooting through some glass and I think that was the issue :bang: but actually I think this lens will be better for the day, though I'll also take the 150-500 with me

Thats a lot of weight to be carrying, hope you are feeling fit! Hope you have a good day out.

Matt, there are some great (unsuprisingly reading other comments) photos here and you have given me some inspiration and some real help on my own 365. I've finally got round to seeing some other peoples and yours has been great to read through. Love Day 9, but that's probably because it reminds me of X-files!

Oh I will not be using the 150-500 but good to have it there in case someone else want's to use it ;)

I need me a big daddy lens! My 55mm just isn't enough

Oh not not a little of lens lust there Jake :naughty:

Thanks Chris, pleased that you've enjoyed looking thought the start of this years challenge, and pleased that you've taken some inspiration away from it

Well that went tits up . Nice shot, I always find the reach needs practice, but it's not far off!

Indeed, I think the biggest issue is getting the holding technique just right for this beast :D

Lovely bird shot! I like it.

I shoot almost exclusively with my 50mm 1.8... I hired the 17-55 2.8 over Christmas and even that felt horrendously heavy at the start haha.

Thanks, you really wouldn't like the 120-300 jebusi was expecting it to be heavy but even didn't quite understand how bulky it would be

I don't like how light my camera + 50 is and I got used to the 17-55 within a few minutes but couldn't imagine that one haha. I always wondered how heavy the huge 70-200 lens is...

I've used the mk1 70-200/2.8 and it's a bit of a beast but nowhere near the weight of the monster

Thanks T, no need to be jealous

Hom much heavier is the 300 over our 150-500? I find I can handle the 150-500 easily enough and am tempted by the 70-200 at the minute. When I am out hiking in the mountains I usually have a 10-20 and a 17-70 with me and dont know whether I coul face carrying the 70-200 all day too.

Day 16 - Chilled

Today there was an amazing frost, thought I suspect tomorrow's will be very special  so I couldn't resist the temptation to do a little bit of macro

The 300 feels about twice the weight of the 150-500 though I'm not quite sure it is
