Didn't realise movie maker had a slow mo option. Might have a play with some video done on my compact then. I didn't see the tp convention video.

Indeed it has, it's actually quite a powerful bit of software once you've played with it a little

As to the stuff from the Convention it's all on the new TPTV Channel HERE it's only two videos plus the one that I shot in my back garden

Though it is hopped that a few more TP related videos will be added over time

Day 190 - Going out with a Bang

Well today in the spirit of this challenge I'm posting my first video, this has been fully produced and edited by me, I'm quite pleased with it :D It shows/Documents the explosive Demolition of these former offices in Coventry

When I first took on this challenge way back in the being of 2011 I did so with the intention of learning about my camera new styles and techniques :D video was never something I had considered

Hi Matt,

I had a look at the video and personally I don't think it is very good. I think that your standards are slipping if you are quite pleased with it.

There is inconsistently with the audio, for example it just drops out when you do the "fast forward" bit at the start.

There is a lot of camera shake and given that you appear to be using a tripod, that is a little disappointing. Also at the end, the exposure changes quite dramatically.

There are large segments of the video where nothing happens, particularly at the start of the slo-mo.

I am sure you can do much better than this.

Regards

Jason

Well what can I say I am quite pleased with it for a first real effort at doing film/footage, yeah there are some areas for significant improvement and that I really cannot argue with

I have to agree with your point's there are times when not a lot happens, in reality I should have just cut the 5 minutes fast forward, as it's rather pointless :( as to the camera shake as much as I tried to shield my tripod from knocks there were a hell of a lot of people there all trying to get as close as possible :( and I was also concentrating on taking some photo's also :bang:

The exposure change at the end, as I've got very little experience of video I'm only guessing but I suspect that the camera got confused my the sudden increase in the amount of sky visible in frame as to my eyes that is when the exposure changes as the building goes down?

Thanks for the feedback

Day 191 - Yellow Stars

These little yellow flowers are quite abundant in my garden and they make for a great subject  I went for a nice little subject for today as I've been really busy I went for a shallow DoF the subject flower

Nice flower shots - I think i might have been inclined to crop in tighter on the main target as i find the oof flowers at bthe bottom a bit of a distraction - but a nice shot none the less.

catching up with your other shots since i last dropped in , I think the collared dove could also have done with a tighter crop , while the squirell is nicely caught. I'm not going to make any comments on the techincal aspects of the vid as i know nuthinn about video - but its certainly an interesting subject.

I certainly see what you mean about the crop on today's I suspect in hindsight that lower right flower could be a bit of a distraction my thought was to keep it in to balance out the frame a little but I had gone for an 8:10 crop ratio that wouldn't have been an issue

I was reluctant to crop the two wildlife ones in any closer primarily because they're already very heavy crops and it's a bit of a soft lens hopefully the soon to arrive Sigma 150-500 will help on that issue :D

I don't know anything about video myself :( but was fun to have a go at :D

Day 192 - Weather Forecast....not to be believed ;)

If you had seen the weather forecast for today you would never have even left the house with your camera, thankfully I did :D I went on a bit of an explore round Warwickshire occasionally slipping into Oxfordshire ;) I've found a photo for the future :D and on the way home the light was just perfect when I was about 5 fast minutes from the windmill and couldn't resist calling in and having a look and this is what I came away with and because of the forecast there will not be another photographer that got this :D as I was the only one there

that's a really nice shot of the windmill Matt i really like the colours

Thanks Yuri, who would have thought it hey, that the day would have ended so well you should have been up there :D

Lovely lighting and colours Matt, nice to see the weather worked in your favour!

Thanks Michael :D I had an idea for a photo today but the weather wasn't what I wanted for that, ironically I wanted worse weather  :suspect: but I was very pleased to be able to get this

I suspect it may be a photo taken with the 150-500 tomorrow if all goes well

Matt

I was going to go up as when i finished work there were loads of storm clouds over that direction, but a friend of mine who i haven't seen for a year or so called, so i ended up going for a couple of pints, so there i no way i could risk driving

Well that's sounds like a great excuse for not being there  cannot beat a couple of beers with an old friend  I'd have taken that choice too and again your right not to have risked it

Look forward to seeing it, do you have it already or is it due for delivery?

It's due to be delivered by 1pm tomorrow so in reality I expect to have it by about 9am

Ace shot!

Superb Capture Matt. I know this is a favourite location of yours but I think this is one of your best shots of the windmill.

Thanks Peter, it is indeed one of my favourite locations in Warwickshire and I have to agree it was a perfect evening tonight :D and there wasn't another person there to see it :(

Ace shot!

Thanks Ben, how you getting on in the canon world?

Matt

Day 193 - Fly me out of here

I hate it when I have very few photo's from a day to pick my POTD and when all of them photo's are shall we say crap, I was just finishing up from dinner when I heard the unmistakeable sound of the GE90's of EK's second daily flight into BHX so though I'd grab my camera and get a shot or two, but didn't check or have time to change my camera settings which were totally wrong for this photo :(

This is my first photo with my new Sigma 150-500mm over all I'm impressed with the lens though this really doesn't show it in it's best light :( as not the best quality photo that I've shot this year, I'm almost tempted to say it's the worst that I've shot in 2012 :'(

Matt

Pretty good, especially happy with my new lenses. My old Nikon D3100 and kit lens feels like a plasticy toy compared to the Canon goodness. :D

So far so good though cheers

Great news  looking forward to seeing some work from it and you

hi Matt, not too bad for saying you didn't have the correct settings. How are you liking the lens?

I'm liking it a lot  it's a bit bigger than I was expecting  but then I didn't really check on the size but attached to the 5D3 it makes a rather nice pair and really well balanced

Day 194 - Challenge Sandwich

Today was my first full day with my nice new 150-500 and this has spurred me start a second all be it slightly more relaxed challenge to try and learn about bird photography and document the visitors to my garden

194/366 (559) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

This is quite a heavy crop and because it was starting to rain I did have to raise the ISO up a little :bang: I live in hope of some nice conditions soon

chaffinch in case you are wondering ;) - respect for running two challenges side by side - i'm finding it hard enough to keep up with one ( I am still shooting daily but my posting has been all to cock in the last couple of days)

I thought it was  to be honest my bird challenge isn't going to be a daily thing  but when we have some nice weather or if I spot something in the garden the camera will be at the ready

I often say to people doing a POTD challenge don't let it get on top of you as if your not careful before you know it you've two weeks of editing to do, if you can edit it on the day or the following day even if it doesn't go online right away

Matt

I love the sniper scope one.

And the sunset shot is astonishing.

Thanks Tony the sniper scope appears to have gone down well :D that sunset really was something to be seen

Damn I have missed loads, not sure how that happened !!!!

Some great photo's as expected... Love the night scope image - very original

A great location found on day 187 too - did nobody spot you ??

and 192 is a real corker

Thanks :D I love the night scope one myself it was just a flash of inspiration :D day 187? or do you mean the blow down?

Still busy at it pal, i see and a new lens also, keep up the nice work Matt

Still working away at it Vince :D and indeed a new lens to add to the photographic options :D

Day 195 - Twisted Visions

Twister well nearly it didn't make ground but certainly interesting to see I've never seen anything quite like this before so I'm really pleased that I had a long lens on to be able to capture it :D

Nice Matt, looks good, I think the funnels are pretty common but saying that Ive never photographed one

Thanks Dave, it not something that I've ever seen before but then saw a few more while out including one over my village though as you might guess I'd already dropped the camera home then as Darrell and myself were heading out to work :(

Day 196 - Oh my Day's

This photo sort so sums up what today has been to me :( it's been raining all flipping day and it's stopped me getting any photo's be that of birds for my other challenge or for this challenge, no getting out and doing nice landscapes, no flower shot's :(

so it still raining over there too :( - it took 6 guys two days to dig out the mill leat - and then last night the land slipped again and we are back to square one (the total damage bill is now up to about £14k)

Yesterday a journey that I can normally do in about 15 minutes took me closer to 45 minutes because it was raining so hard that the road and a constant inch or so of water on it, I've never seen rain like it  at least not that lasted for so long, about and hour, it sounds like a lot of work ahead for you :bang: you should set a camera up and do a time lapse of them doing the work ;)

I thought about that - but theres no where sensible to put a camera. You can see more on the joy of our flooding in branscombe

(not my pictures - these were taken by my team members rob and kate )

It looks like you've been hit a lot harder than we have up here yesterday was there worst day we had for rain :( so far

Excellent capture of the twister !!!!

Day 187 - A Peaceful Day :)

Thanks Mate, 187 was taken in a grave yard so there was no worries about taking photos there :D

Day 197 - Lights are on but nobody's home :(

Today I got my hands on a shiny new orb tool so took it out for a little bit of fun this evening, this was purely a test shot before the real fun started however it started to rain just after this exposure was done :bang: so with a little processing I managed to get this shot out of the test exposure

197/366 (562) by mwhcvt, on Flickr

It's not the best orb every capture but hopefully I'll get the weather to get out and have some fun with this tool very soon :D I'd like to thank Darrell (thedodo) for sorting out this tool for me to play with :D
