I know what you mean, I can't wait for my our holiday to the Scilly Isles in October.

Now that is a part of the UK that I'd love to get to spend some time in sometime in the future

It certainly is well worth it . The beauty of the islands is awesome. It is my most favourite place in the uk. I have only ever visited in October, every year since 2001, it's a place I would love to visit in the summer as well.

I may have to get myself over there at some time, how do you travel to there?

We drive down the day before, going down the m6 toll is a very good idea for us, although not on it for long it does help with journey time. We stay here the night before we go over and the night when we get back. You have 3 options for getting across to the islands, The Scillonian 3 and Skybus are covered by Isles Of Scilly Travel and then there is the Helicopter
The boat is the cheaper option followed by the Skybus and the Helicopter being the most expensive. Boat is around 2hours30 minutes skybus and helicopter are around 15-20 minutes ish. Personally I say the boat is the best way. In prvious octobers I have seen Minke Whales, a Long Finned Pilot wale, Common and Bottlenose Dolphins, not all on one trip but last year on the way back 2 minke whales within minutes about 30ft off the boat. There are also inter island boats too.

Thanks for all the useful information there Michael, I'll have to remember that and refer back to it later on as I think that it would be brilliant to visit

For some reason I can't put my finger on, I really like the shot of the sound mixing desk.

Thanks Tony :D that's appreciated :D I've just got in from today's photo so will have to see what is on the camera after that :D

Day 183 - Once in a life time.....

....Taken this afternoon in Warwick as part of the Olympic Torch Relay, this isn't the shot that I had visualised and planned for but thanks to the police and the Olympic committee even though I made it to the location hours prior to the event was set up I was told that I was to move along to allow for an official shoot which actually never happened and that I had the choice of either moving of my own validation or I would be forcibly removed and face arrest under anti-terrorism legislation :(

Nice shot matt - although I wonder if it would crop to pan as the majority of the interest is in the bottom 2/3 ?

I've also just been working back through your last weeks worth (as ive been on the IoW without interweb) and theres some cracking shots there - I especially like the mixing desk.

Thanks Pete :D to be honest while I'm happy with what I've produced today it's nothing like I'd planned for today but the police/OOC decided that shot was not allowed  and moved everyone off the bridge thus spoiling my shot and any shots that I could get as it now looks like no one has turned up :(

Glad you like what you've found and looking forward to catching up on your thread :D

Matt

I know but I'm hardcore,

Good to see you commiting to the full thou mate - we can keep each other going (though when you cross the finish line i'll still have 171 shots to go)

Sorry mate but you'll have a lot more than that to go ;) I'm currently on Day 548 :D so you'll have a little more than 171 :D

Hi Matt, that was very unfortunate that you couldn't get the shot you wanted. Very unkind on there part. Still a good shot though. I was completely unable to move when I got mine in Derby the other day due to being squashed right against a metal barrier!

Doh - so i'll have 536 to go when you finish :bang:

Me thinks as you are so hardcore you should go to 1500 and keep me company ;)

Indeed I've actually posted this photo onto facebook which is an unusual for me as I'd rather not normally but I'd like to get this issue out there :shake:

We shall see but I'm sure by 1k I might need a rest :D

Or it will have become a lifetime addiction

Joking aside you are an inspiration to us all, and i'll definitely be looking back at your earlier shots for inspiration when the going gets tough.

Just getting to 12 showed me that this wasnt going to be as easy as i'd thought, but then again if it was easy there'd be no challenge and it wouldnt require men of your (hopefuly our) calibre

Exactly mate, I've come to learn just what a challenge it can be :( I've had day's sometimes this year where I really haven't wanted to pick the camera up at all as I'm sure you appreciate, it's been an incredibly hard first half of 2012 for me, but the support of TP has got me through it

I do fear that I'll get that addition as I do really enjoy the challenge all I need really is for canon to sponsor me and I'd never stop :D

Though today antics are not a encouragement :annoyed:

Three thousand six hundred and fifty - there's a thought ( I'm game if you are  ) feels like there ought to be a magazine article or photo book in there somewhere ;) - I'm off to bed before i commit to something I might regret

I think that bed is a good idea for you  I've had a couple of beer's but not enough to commit so something that hardcore

Day 184 - Hide and Seek Fail

There's no hiding this big orange beast ;) no matter how hard you try ;) I was out this evening looking for my photo I had an idea in my head but never did find the scene that I wanted :( but did happen across this digger hidden away down a tiny little country lane :D and thought that it look interesting stuck out in middle of the green with only a small house in view, I guess it beats using a fork to dig the borders

Interesting - but the horizon's on the wonk, plus the colours are looking a bit washed out. At least you had nice weather - it was ****istently raining again here , so i was reduced to inside shots once more.

Nah mate, no nice weather here either, rain rain and more rain this was one of the few moments that the rain stopped and the light has been horridly flat all day :( Ironically I've actually cloned out the things that show this was actually not far off level, the house in the background was up a slope and I think it may have suffered a little from some subsidence over the years :(

Matt

Day 185 - In the summer time, when the weather is.......:bang:

Indicative of a British Summer :( grey sky's and water logged fields

Day 186 - Special Op's

At 0130HRS in somewhere in this cold, dark and wet land, a crack team from the 22nd Regiment - Special Air Service are performing Recon and Observation on this Chemical Warfare plant's masquerading as a cement works....

I had that light bulb moment when driving through the most torrential rain I've seen in a long time thinking about what can be my POTD

It's the first time that I've ever done anything like this and all had come right out of my imagination worryingly but there we go, I shot this at a much higher ISO than I needed to just because I though that would give a more authentic night scope look :D

I like that Matt, works really well. You have certainly pulled off the nigh scope look,

That's mate, I'm pleased with the over all look though concede that thinking about it, it was a little silly to put the coordinates and location classified :bang: I'll have to put that down as a continuity error :bang:

Nice, its certainly different (aren't your plus and minuses the wrong way round though  )

Thanks mate, I'm not sure if it's still a photo or not now but it was done with and the exif shows 5D3 so I'm claiming it to still be a photo as to the plus and minuses :bang: I guess they are really, something to thing on if I have another go, got a little caught up in the creative side and missed a couple of flaws in my plan :bang:

you should look at the 'how would you edit this photo game' in the processing forum - we've done far worse than that to photos in the name of edditing - flying sharks, giant meercats, explosions, dragons... and those are just the more conservative efforts

I may have to take a look, the more creative work with photoshopping stuff into my shot's but I think I need to get watching the guides and tutorials :D

that night scope is great, something really different, works really well

Thanks mate, it's nice to try something a little different it was a challenge but I've enjoyed it :D

this is the completely bonkers one, its not so much creative as insane - its also where my avatar came from because someone bet me I wouldnt make a meerkat/shark hybrid...

theres also the PP game thread which has the same premise but is much more serious

What made me think of it was that your photo today put me in mind of this , which i did on the 'how would you' thread a while back

Its not difficult - i'm completely self taught , largely from playing on those threads

mind you i'm a real novice compared to some of the stuff you see on there - particularly from zerocool, Mr G, and kerioak

I know I've seen some of there work and it is epic, I will learn one day :D I think that day is coming soon :D I suspect that it will be my next project :D as part of the soon to be formally announced challenge 1000

Really like the last shot, Matt. Great idea and good to see you're still feeling creative after all these days! :)

Thanks Ben, I'll be honest and say that it was great to get my creative juices flowing to create this
