Glad to see you are still hard at it Matt. Havnt had the time to catch up with your challenge in a while. Interested in seeing the obelisk, there is one near me that i am going to try some night. My biggest problem is not making it look like it is leaning! Liking the poppies and flower shots as always.

Thanks Phil, yeah still working my way through the challenge :D had a nice boost this last week as I've had my third explore on flickr with the obelisk and then my fourth explore the following day with the poppies :woot: really appreciated your comment  also I'll share a little secret of the obelisk, I wasn't happy with the look of it so it has received a little distortion correction involving pulling at the side of frame to straighten things out :D

Day 176 - Are we nearly there yet?

The slow route to Warwick, at the mid point on the famous or maybe that should be infamous Hatton Flight of Locks with St. Mary's Church in the centre of Warwick in the distance :D

The more we look at the obelisk, the more we are convinced that it is leaning slightly to the right. Is it our eyes? Sorry!

Don't be sorry Phil, I don't think it's leaning at least I hope it's not as I spend about 10 minutes making sure it looks right, I think what your seeing is an optical illusion because of the direction of the cloud movement

You could be right. Never used distortion correction before until tonight, just had a wee go at straightening a round tower that i shot a month back. Cheers for that.

Nice relaxing shot for today by the way.

No problem always happy to help where I can :D I though so, I actually had a dilemma as to what to use for todays photo so there will be some more posted in there own threads later, normally I just know what to post :D and I'm pleased I picked this one :D

Day 177 - Fluffy Fun

Okay so this is not the best photo that I've taken even today if I'm honest but when I started my challenge nearly 18 months ago the whole idea was to push myself to learn new stuff and photo's of wildlife is something that I don't do enough of mainly as I don't really have the kit but these little Moorhens were so sweet that when I saw them yesterday I knew I had to go back and at least try, I'm sure they're not more than a few days old

Day 178 - Tranquillity Base :suspect:

This evening as the sun was staring to get low in the sky I spotted this long barge of down the canal and I though that it made such a tranquil scene :D must be a great place to be to get out of the rat race :D

Nice again today Matt. It would be a lovely way to spend a week. The red thing (life ring?) on the left distracts me slightly though.

Blood hell you've got good eyes Phil I missed that, I think that it will have to go though, I'll update the image later on tonight with a version without that :bonk: I'd love to spend some time on one of them

Matt

Sorry Matt for being a bit late but I have to say I do like your 173 - Lovely bright and vivid colours.

Thank you kindly Peter any time comments on my works are appreciated :D I'm pleased that you liked it :D

Liking the latest shot, Matt. Really captures the feel of a British summer evening for me. I also like the previous canal shot, though having travelled up there in the past, I don't enjoy it as a boater quite as much :)

Thanks Ben :D Indeed the look of a lazy summer evening is just what I wanted out of it  I would hate to have to travel up or down the hatton flight

Day 179 - Flower Power

Flowers are always a great subject  today to be honest I didn't much feel like going off and hunting for a photo so I went for a walk round my garden and found these that I thought deserved to have there photo take :D

As always, liking the flowers Matt. Nice dof on this. Why can't I get mine to look like this! http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=416669

Phil

Thanks Phil it's taken a lot of practice to get my work with flowers to this kind of level :D I do love taking photos of flowers though, I find more often than not you don't need to shoot wide open, take this one today if I had done it at f/2.8 I don't think it would have been as effective as this that was done at f/6.3 :D as your close to the subject even that aperture gives a nice DoF :D

Day 180 - Deja vu

Well for my 180th photo last year I did my first photo of the day at the windmill so it seemed somewhat appropriate to head up there this evening and boy the light was fantastic :D

Very nice today again matt, you will soon be half way through your 366.
Dont know how you found light like that, it seems like we have been under a cloud since sunday! Almost 40mm of rain in my dogs dish from when i fed her last night

The light that I've had this year I seriously think that I've sold my sole :suspect: I don't mind if I have I'd just like to know it's been an amazing year for me so far, indeed nearly half way through this year, but still a long way to go as I've decided to go for the cool 1000 days :D

Matt

You are slightly mad to even think about 1000! Just looking through the 366 challenge page and there is only 8 or 9 left doing it. An awful lot of people didnt make it past january or february.

I know but I'm hardcore, I've got addicted to it as it's done so much for my photography I just want to see where it will take me :D unfortunately I think that occasionally people enter into a challenge like this without fully appreciating the nature of the beast, it becomes a massive part of your life

Slightly ?!?

Nice image Matt. Looks like you caught the scene in some lovely light. The long shadows in the foreground add to the image.

Thanks Peter, you've met me though :D you know I really am nuts ;) pleased that you like the image :D

Lovely image of the windmill Matt, what beautiful light.

Thanks Michael, it was the perfect evening for it maybe just a touch more cloud would have finished the scene but so much better than I did this time last year :D

Matt

Great shots Matt. I especially love the wide angle of the lock gate approach and the latest windmill the sky in that one is simply breathtaking for me.

Thanks Kev, I am really pleased with both of them, I had to wait some time to get that lock gate photo so it was well worth the wait, it was sort of right that I went back to the windmill yesterday :D

Still going strong i see Matt, some great photography as always !

Thanks Vince, that's really very kind of you to say :D I'm pleased that your still enjoying what you find in this thread

Day 181 - A mixed up world :D

Working with thedodo this evening covering an 18th so though it was time to push the 5D3 a little :D with a photo of one of the mixers that we use :D

I do need to get little better as processing noise under these conditions so there is something new for me to learn :D

Nice dof Matt. I know a mixing desk when I see one...though its been a good couple of years now :) liking the meter/level lights bokeh in the background...

Thanks Kev, I thought it would work well :D and it was a real challenge for the camera as I didn't want to use flash :D though I've got it with me. basic exif is

Exposure: 1/8
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 64 mm
ISO Speed: 12800

Not bad I think for the fact that it was by hand :D

Day 182 - Turn round...leave while you can...

...Just landed, I don't know where from but I'd bet the weather was never where they were :( I was at a loose end so thought that I'd head upto EMA to test out the camera with a little aviation but all this has really done is to confirm that I think the 70-300 needs some work :(

Agree Matt...the lens does require some work... Its snapped that damned airline that suggested standing up seats and no toilets ... Could have at least got shots of the visiting Swedish cheerleading squad..

To be honest I'm not sure if it's me getting more critical of my own work of if the lens really has got worse but it just dosn't seem sharp enough for what I want these day's I can guess that there is going to be a new lens in my life sooner or later :bang: but then we must keep the camera stores in business

Dang, I knew there was something more interesting that I could have taken a photo of :bang: FR do have some very interesting ideas from time to time :suspect:

Matt

It's a little awkward to tell at this size, it does look a little odd in places. I remember your sot of a sheep a while back which certainly showed up the problem, but it doesn't seem as pronounced in this shot.

Indeed I'm not really happy with this :( but I need to use a longer lens today and that's all I have at the moment, Ideally I think in the future I'd like to own the 70-200/2.8 and for the times when I need something a little longer the Sigma 50/150-500

Matt

A 70-200 2.8 is on my wish list too! If you are not in a hurry to make a decision you can gladly have a play with my 50-500 at the NMA Meet to see what you think.

That would be great  I very much doubt that I'll make a purchase in the near future as I've got to build up the bank balance a little more before I make a purchase, and truth be told I'm think of using what disposable cash I've got right now to get off somewhere and actually make use of what I've got already  I'll have to take you up on that offer
