Thanks :D you can as it is EF mount but you don't fill the frame, so have to crop down to about a 12mp image so the fish will stay with the 450D which will in a few days become a backup to my new love :lol: :love: I cannot wait to get it in my grubby mits :thumbs:

I've ordered myself as 24-70/2.8 :thumbs: but not the mk2 that was far too much money and also no available yet anyway :lol: then it's time to start saving for the next purchase, that I think is going to be the 16-35/2.8 for my FF UWA :D I'm also considering 70-200/2.8 plus 1.4xTC :D

Truth be told I've not really look yet, but I do know that the Mk1 is significantly cheaper :thumbs: and it's likly to be a classifieds purchase anyway so more than likely the Mk1 as and when funds permit :D

That's a real possibility especially if the ISO performance of the 5D3 is as good as they say, I'm sure there will be some extreme test images making there way into the challenge at some point :D ISO102400 :naughty:

Day 104 - Bluebells are coming :woot:

Well those wonderful little blue bells are slowing making thier way into their full glory, I've finally seen my first bluebell of the year today, so that's actually 3 days earlier than last year :thumbs: so hopefully by next week I'll be in full on blue bell mode :D

This lone little cluster is my start to the year, many more to come in the next couple of weeks I hope :thumbs: honestly having got home I cannot help but think I should have shot this from a slightly different angle :suspect: :bonk:

Snap! My shot is a bluebell today, but ours have been out for almost a month. The first ones flowered here in mid-March. However, when the cooler weather came back they just seem to stop and have not progressed much since then.

I don't know how you keep going with these shots each day. I have only done 13 days and am not sure that I will manage a month.

Thanks Jenny, I'm sure you'll make it though the month your doing so well :thumbs: I'm think I'm just a special kind of :cuckoo: :lol: but I really enjoy the challenge and I think that's half the battle :thumbs:

I'm sure that you would love my bluebell spot :thumbs: in a weeks time it'll be blue bells as far as the eye can see :thumbs:

I don't think that HS2 will affect this little bit of my world :suspect: :thumbs: I think so too but soon I'll be able to improve on what I did last year, it will be a sea of blue there by next week :woot:

Day 105 - Ello me Duck

I don't really do wildlife as I'm normally a little too noisy for wild stuff to want to come anywhere near me but this afternoon I decided to challenge myself, with my 70-300+2xTC turning the lens into a manual focus lens, so there is the challenge :D but to make life a little easier I've picked on of the tamest wild life going :D

I would have liked a lower PoV but as soon as I moved he kept on backing off :( I think that the smell of orange sauce was making him nervous :lol: I'm quite pleased with it though since it was fully manual, I could never have been photographer back when AF was just a dream :eek:

I agree a bit lower may have been better. Have you tried enhancing the catchlight in the eye? The eye is usually the most important part of a shot like this.

Thanks Jenny, I was about 2.5 metres away :thumbs: this is virtually a full frame with very little cropping :D I've never done editing like that so may have a go at it later :thumbs:

Manual focus :D gotta have a little fun occasionally in fact yesterday was manually focussed to but that wasn't constantly moving, the exif is wrong on this though as I would guess I was actually about 450mm :thumbs:

Day 106 - Uncharted Territory

It's the first time that I've tried to do anything this artistic so I'll let the viewing public decide if it's a winner or not :D

This is a Cock Pheasant that was showing off in an effort to try and get the affection of the local Hen's I managed to get a photo of him but I was using a manual 2xTelecoverter and to be blunt it really wasn't as sharp as I'd have liked, In fact I missed focus my a fraction :( so I decided I still like the photo for the action caught and remembered some artistic works I've seen in the past so I thought that I would have ago at making a water colour effect from the photo :D

Hi Matt,

I rather like the effect but I am not sure about the white vignette. It makes it just a bit too white for my taste. I like the alignment where you have everything important on the thirds lines, but I would have preferred the pheasant looking into the shot instead of out of the shot.

It is annoying when you get a great opportunity for a shot but miss the focus. It often happens to me.

I think my biggest issue is that I think my lens needs recalibrating I'm almost sure there is an element in it that is out of alignment :( as even on AF it's not too impressive, I love the way he was puffing himself up to make him as bit as possible for the ladies :thumbs:

My thinking on the white vignette is to make it look like it's on paper but I can see what you mean :thumbs:

Been a while since I used you mf kit. Nice shot of the mallard, quality looks quite good from that combo. Now the pheasant, looks really cool I think, it is a little bright maybe on the white, maybe just needs a bit of a frame to bring it off the page.

Thanks Michael, I was pleased with the quality of the Mallard it's actually nice and sharp :thumbs: I see what you mean about yesterdays image it is a little on the bright side, maybe I should have desaturated it a little :thinking: now a frame there's an idea :thumbs:

Day 107 - Hidden Gold

Well I went on the hunt of a sea of blue and came away with a little pot of gold :D Finding this lovely little wild primrose was a really nice find :thumbs: and I'm sure that I'll get my sea of blue soon :thumbs:

Hi Matt,

That's a lovely little flower. I have hundreds in my garden and I have been trying for a couple of weeks to get a decent shot, but have not managed anything worth posting :bang:

You may have to wait a bit longer for your sea of blue. The flowers in our garden have just stalled. They were all out early but have been stopped in their tracks by the change in weather. My bluebells have not progressed at all in the last 2 weeks. I am patiently waiting.

Thanks Jenny, it's more or less the same for me they've been the same for the last two weeks round by me, I really want a good display :( as I want to really do them justice this year as last year I don't think that I did :shake:

The Primrose was a nice find :thumbs: as my Dad used to have a Primrose Yellow Jaguar E-Type many many years ago :thumbs:

Day 108 - Learning Curve

Well today my shiny new camera arrived, so batteries on charge to go out and play....erm I mean take photo's, this new camera and the move to full frame is really going to take some getting used to :eek:

I'm under no illusions that this is far from perfect but it's not a bad start to this new relationship between me and this camera, I'm keeping the 450D mainly for fisheye work

I've used the camera for all of about an hour and I'm in love :thumbs: I think that my 450D will only come out to play now on long shoots where I'm doing star trials and when I want the use of the 8mm fisheye :thumbs: this full frame DoF is going to take a little getting used to :thumbs:

Thanks Phil that's appreciated, I'm sure that they will improve further once I'm used to the kit a little more and on that front I'm loving it :woot:
