MWHCVT(Matt's) Challenge 365 - Completed

Day 33 - Into the money jar.

I was sat day dreaming of the next bit of camera gear that I would like to treat myself too, this brought me to look longingly at my money bottle, a lot of have a piggy bank, money jar etc, well I have an old 3ltr Vodka bottle  :puke: :whistling:

Editing all I have done is Crop, Sharpen, Boost Contrast and a slight vignette to balance the corners.

P.S. any donations to the MWHCVT camera fund are appreciated, did you know that only £2/month can keep and photographer in lens cloths. :naughty: Only joking.

Day 37 - Surf's up

First time that I have considered shooting water sports, I think that I may have found another sport to photograph at the weekends to go with the rugby ;)

Day 38 - Colour needed

I was getting a bit fed up with the miserable weather so thought that it was time to get a bit of colour in the challenge.

Day 40 - Trails

It has been a couple of weeks since my last light trails so thought I would go out and capture some trails, Only problem when I stopped to pick up a fellow photographer I must have dropped my wallet :bang::bang::bang::bang: and to top it off yes I had 80% of my SD card in my wallet, so I have cancelled all my cards, but now I need to go and get more SD cards, so if anyone has any 4GB SD cards that they want to sell give me a shout.

Just popping in here again for a quick peep :). Love the paperclip shot! Shiny :D!!! Some of your "superman" shots are pretty funny too, well captured :). Really liking the money jar shot too :). How was it done? Just looking down the bottle neck?

Thanks, yeah the money shot was actually quite simple but it is effective, I just set the focus on centre point focus and the set the flash to bounce off the wall next to the bottle, then in editing all that was done was sharpen, slight boost in saturation, crop and then a vignette to balance out the colouring of the corners.

I have a new toy to play with now thanks to Hazel(crazylady) so I suspect that todays shot will be taken with my 50mm 1.8

Day 41 - DoF Pill's

I thought that with my new lens arriving in the post today, again thanks to Hazel(crazylady) I should make use of it for my 365 image, This photo was inspired by another recent post on TP.

Hiya Matt,

Your photos are very inspiring and you have some fab ideas. I look forward to seeing what you come up with each day.

Your light trail images are fantastic and I may have to draw on your expertise some time when I get round to doing this kind of shot.

Regards your day 41 image .... I think it is good, but just feel the DOF is too shallow. It makes me feel fuzzy when I look at it ...... or was that the feeling you were trying to create as a result of taking the pills? In which case it has worked then.

Always look forward to seeing what you have on offer, idea wise, for your 365. Admire the dedication you have and your creative ingunity is amazing. A true inspiration!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn, any time that you want advise on light trails, just let me know and also checkout my guide in my signature, I'm glad that you are enjoying my photos, though I have got a little bit behind with my 52, but I am aiming to catch that up this weekend, as I have the ideas for both themes that I haven't posted yet just have not had time to go the places I have planned to shoot them...

In relation to the pills yes I did take the DoF to the extreme, this was mainly because I wanted to test out the effect that I could achieve with my new toy the 50mm 1.8, but I really like your interpretation of the idea, i.e. getting fuzzy from taking the pills, I don't think that would be a good idea with these particular pills thought :naughty: they happen to be a laxative that I have left over from my summer spent in hospital last year.

 Matt I wouldn't like to have a fuzzy effect from those pills then ....

I can relate to the 'getting behind' with a project, I find I put my 52 before my 365, even though I take the pics for my 365 every day .... it is just the review and processing time that I seem to battle keeping up with ..... especially having to put my son first before everything .... so I find I am working on my projects after 9pm and into the late hours.

If only I had more hours in the day ..... that would help.

Anyway .... onwards and upwards.

Regards light trails .... that is something I have wanted to do for some time now, especially car light trails. I have done quite a few other light trails in the last few nights, which you will see soon when I process and upload (a different 'spin' on light trails :D)

Thanks again for the great ideas from your 365.

Cheers

Dawn :)

What do you use for the indoor lighting - really nice colours and balance you're achieving.

I use my flash gun (Canon 430EX II) I tend to bounce it off either the wall or ceiling, mostly ceiling. Also there is the normal household energy saving bulbs that are usually directly above the subject. Except for day 3, this was done in pitch black darkness with a long exposure and the flash gun fired by hand using the pilot button.

I hope this helps I know it is not overly descriptive but is is what I have been doing.

Day 42 - Spring is springing.

Well I wanted to go out and have another play with the new lens, I'm having a lot of fun with it, it is also astonishing me the clarity that I am achieving at 1/4000 of a second I have never seen my camera work at those speeds before ;)

I have just found this through the recent threads table on the home page, gave it a click having seen some of your light trails. I really like what has been posted here too, will be keeping an eye on this from now on :)

Keep up the good work

Day 43 - Fast Shutter Time

This is once of the fastest photos that I have ever taken at 1/1600 of a second, taking sports photos has been a bit of learning curve for me but I am really enjoying it.

Nice work matt, like your 42 shot. Great dof - what lens is it?

Thanks, it's the 50mm 1.8 aka nifty fifty, got it from the classifieds on here was a great purchase I am really loving having a play with it

Day 44 - The Break Up

Just a bit of fun really but the shot came out better than I could have hoped, one take only, and all when just as I had planned.

Day 45 - Into the unknown.

Well today I when out with the intention to try and push my comfort levels, with this in mind I had already sorted out the location that I wanted to take my photo, and I have had a go at HDR style for the first time, if I am honest I am only about 50% happy with the end photo so I have a long road ahead of me before being happy to use HDR processing on a regular basis.

Hiya Matt,

I really like this one

You are doing a fab job with your project and I am now in the habit of popping in every day to see what you have produced for your 365.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Dawn, I was really pleased with the pool shot it works so well, I have to thank my mate for his part in the shot with the way that he struck the cue ball, I have a couple more shots from the sequence that I will process soon including one with a faint line just before the cue ball hits the pack will put them online soon, I am not to happy with my effort for today, I love the composition and the colours but if you look at the large version on flickr there are some quite noticeable issues with the HDR, I like the overall image because the colours IMO are really nice, I did not want to do a totally OTT HDR and on that point I think that I have got it just about right.

Day 46 - Be Selective

Well I though that I would have a play with another style that I have never attempted before, I personally am quite pleased with it and I would love to hear what you think of my first effort.

Well Matt there are some real crackers in here. I love the pool balls one day 44. outstanding.

Matt, that is a lovely picture, you have done very well indeed!, I can't fault it, everything looks spot on, going to try the technique myself.

Thanks I am really pleased with it considering it was my first attempt

Thank you, the pool one was a flash of inspiration that I had in the middle of playing a few frames and thinking about what to make my shot of the day.

Thanks, I am lucky to have the time but I am failing miserably with my 52 am going to try really hard to catch it up this week.

As to the selective colouring I did this in CS5 that I have been lucky enough to be given, I did it by using the smart selection tool to select the area that is in colour and created a new layer the converted rest into B&W I will be having another play with it soon to try and improve it

Day 47 - Colour of Money, Well if your Good.

I wanted to take a picture with some nice vivid colours but also wanted to have another practice with selective colours in PS so I cracked out my poker set.

Day 48 - Down the trail

48/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

With this one I want to give emphasis to the bike trail sign so left it in colour, I have chosen this angle looking in the direction the sign points down the lane, but went for a shallow DoF to give it a sense of mystery as to the destination.

I promise that I will put down the selective colouring tool and step away soon

Day 49 - Money Dreams

49/365 by mwhcvt, on Flickr

An explanation, I don't want this to sound bad but I love money, especially coins, it fascinates me thinking of the number of different hands that a coin will go through in the years that it is in circulation.

So to this photo, the concept of day dreaming about who would have had these coins in the past, and what they purchased, for this reason I have started clear and used a shallow DoF to achieve a fuzzy/dreamy feel to the image.
