Happy Christmas all . Whilst I sit here pondering the list of chores that my wife has left for me as she went to work this morning (and I've already finished), it got me thinking about the cameras in my possession and which one I would consider my most fun to use body.

As you can see from my signature, I have quite a few to select from, but for the purposes of these musings, I'm going to exclude things like the Pocket Osmo 3, my GoPro and my Mini 4 pro drone. Just interchangeable camera bodies.

I immediately thought it would be my Nikon Z8 or Z9 bodies, as they are so capable and pretty much handle everything I can chuck at them. But no, whilst they are brilliant tools and pretty much my go to for say wildlife shooting, they are for my fun purposes too big and heavy to be considered for that purpose. What about my new Z6 III. Well that is a brilliant body and it has fantastic Video features too making it a great all rounder, but I've not had it long enough or shot with it enough to promote it to my favourite.

I think for my Z series bodies, quite surprisingly it has to be my little Z7 II. Fantastic high res image quality, good enough 4K (and 4k 50) video quality all wrapped up in a tiny lightweight body. Sure it's not got the best AF or my bodies, doesn't shoot as fast, has the deepest buffer, doesn't shoot 10 bit video etc. however there's still something about the body of the Z7 that just feels great in my hand (more so than any other of the bodies). However, the Z7 II's problem (like all the other Z bodies I own), is that unless I go with my tiny primes (the 28mm F2.8 or the 40mm F2), then the Z full frame lenses are still quite large and heavy (Although of amazing quality).

What about my Olympus micro four thirds bodies. Well the EM1-X is getting a bit long in the tooth, but still a very capable body and like the Z9 with its integrated grip, is really comfortable to hold with longer lenses. Also, like some of my Z bodies, it's just a bit to large and heavy as an everyday fun body. So I really thought it would be my OM-1 (MK 1 version). I had (have) a real love affair with the last of the Olympus bodies, and to this day, for a feature set it still beats pretty much every other camera out there. In one body we have an 80mp tripod mounted high res shot mode (that combines in camera not on a computer), as well as a hand held mode for 50mp images (again also in camera). We have Live ND, Live Time, Live view, perspective correction. We have what was the worlds first implementation of "pre-capture" and in Raw as well - so the OM-1 is my fav camera.... well no (it's close but no cigar). Whilst it's undoubtably a mini marvel, it' still quite a relatively heavy camera and its video performance is so-so, and at 20mp, doesn't give much room or scope for cropping.

So in that case, that is my current fav "fun" camera ? Well very surprisingly it's a non Nikon and non Olympus body. It's my little Sony A6700. Yes, other bodies have more resolution and more features, but the A6700 is so small and light, and my current walkabout lenses (the 18-140 and the 10-20 are tack sharp and tiny and light). Couple that with amazing AF and superb Video specs, make this my most fun camera to use and goes everywhere with me. Is it perfect - of course not. The Viewfinder is low res, the rear screen is also quit slow res and it only has a single card slot, but overall despite it's "limitations" is the one I reach for when I go on trips / holidays etc.

That's mine what about yours ?

Despite many others saying otherwise about Sony I think my A1's been my most fun/enjoyable camera to use. I don't find it cold or clinical and actually find it engaging to use, plus it has just about every feature you could want and it and it tackles everything thrown at it with aplomb. Add to this the 35mm GM and 50mm f/1.2 GM are two of the best lenses I've ever used it makes for a really enjoyable system.

I would say the second most enjoyable body I've used is the EM1 Mark II, although I really gelled with the D750.

I love my D850 and my E-M1ii is my go-to camera for unplanned shooting sessions, my actual favourites for fun shooting are film cameras - Pentax LX and MX with 50/55mm lenses or in digital, the Pentax K3iiiM

My most fun camera is my Hasselblad SWC. Brilliant lens that doesn't distort, it's just... wide and expansive. Scale focus as well so you really get to have fun with judging distance. It's a camera that really forces you to pay close attention to the space around you.

I think the one I most enjoy using is the Fuji X-30. Not a massive zoom range or the best IQ and it doesn't fit in a shirt pocket but it's the one I tend to grab on my way out of the door. The RX-100vi is a close second and fills the 3 criteria above that the Fuji misses!

I'm not sure. I have MFT Panasonic GX9 and GX80 and I like the GX80 best as it's the cheaper and humbler camera and I like that, sort of inverse snobbery. Between my Sony A7 and A7III I'll always have a soft spot for the original A7 as I've taken so many pictures with it but I am getting more used to the A7III. Those are my decent cameras but I think I'll name my most "fun" camera as my Medion compact. It is by any standards quite a poor camera and I never know what the white balance and colours are going to look like but that's all part of its charm and even if I never use it again I'll never sell it and not only because no one would want it. It is just a fun thing.

There was a recent thread about “enjoyable cameras to use”, but my favourite is the X100V, I like the manual controls and built in ND filter.

It's a tough one this really..... Mainly because the subject/genre can have just as much of an influence as the actual camera up to a point.

I love using my A7Riii & [mainly] 35GM lens plus the others I have for it. Does pretty much everything I ask of it for car stuff, to night skies, to landscape, to portraits.... Is it fun? Sort of, it's certainly enjoyable to use and gives guaranteed results really. As an example, shooting night skies is enjoyable with it as I said - but is that because of using the camera & lens? The IQ? The art/challenge of capturing all the data I need? The location we've gone to? Or the other friends I'm with? .......

Is using the 35mm film camera fun? Yeah. Mainly because it's enjoyable & non serious I guess.....

Is street photography fun? To me, yes. I use the X100f for that and that is fun and enjoyable to use too. So sort of a double win there also.....

If I had to answer that question right now, without all of the above waffle..... X100f in OVF mode with image review switched off :)

I think it's my old Canon 7D. Probably because I've had it so long, and taken so many pics on it, I know how to squeeze the best out of it. Dont actually use it much these days (mostly FF) but I still use it for walks now and again.
Actually thinking on a bit, it's got less nonsense than the newer cameras, it doesnt have wi-fi, or a teasmade or goodness knows what else my newer cameras have (dont get me started on the Lumix ) But I dont need those features to take pics....... actually a teasmade might be nice.... ;)

Out of all the cameras I own/owned my little old Fujifilm X-Pro1 is my most fun/comfortable camera.

OK, it’s old, slow, featureless in comparison to other cameras I have - but it’s still the most at home camera I own.

OK, so shooting just for me, with no advance plan for a specific goal, I'm probably reaching for a Fuji GFX50R with 45mm lens (close 35mm FF), ND8 and CIR-POL filters and Godox V1 just in case. Fits nicely in my ageing shoulder bag.

iPhone. It’s always in my pocket so is available in any situation, has three lenses available at the touch of a button and a nice big screen. When something is easy and intuitive I find it more fun to use and capture the scene or the moment.

I’ve got a couple of Nikon Z’s and a couple of compacts which are great, but my favourite photos from my trip to Japan were all taken on the iPhone. It’s far from perfect and the image quality isn’t great when you view on a monitor but there’s more to life than flawless image quality (which I realise maybe heresy to some).

My favourite for many years were 2 original Ricoh GRDs with their mighty 8mb sensor - very nice BW jpegs straight out of camera just crop and tweak a bit and all done. For the last couple of years though I have been mainly using my iPhone SE. It's so small and light, can shoot in RAW and has just one 28mm equivalent lens (the same as the Ricohs). If I had to choose I would have to keep the SE.
Quality Image over Image Quality is far more important to me - although I do strive for both!.....:)

Love my R3 as it just handles everything but for fun it's still the Fuji's.

So simple to use with the dials and a great conversation starter to be fair and now I have the Instax Square printer along with the X-T5 it's great giving prints out to people.
