Musicals - whats the deal?

I'm afraid I can't help but recall old man Steptoe snarling "poofs football" when referring to ballet, which to my mind is applicable to stage musicals - they're just so archly camp and unnecessary - perhaps it was because I was taken to see a production of "Salad Days" when I was very young, from which I have yet to recover..........:D
 
JoeScrivens, I think you just need to lock yourself in a room with several musical DVDs, stick at it and get out of your cultural rut... you'll be singing 'summer nights' and 'America' before you know it ;)
