Music on websites

It's been covered a lot here before.

The general consensus is that if there is music on a site, most people will close it straight away.

I must say, I do make a swift exit as soon as I hear music. For me, it's just a case of 'It's my computer, and I'll decide what noises it makes'.

Another vote for no music. When I'm at the computer I'm usually listening to my own music so I don't really want to have to have something else playing at the same time.

it makes the baby jesus of web design cry. Just... don't do it.

The sole exception is _some_ wedding slideshows, which are launched distinctly and separately from the main page.

Just done a slideshow for someone and a specific track is the only one I can think of that works, but to do the job properly (I think) means getting permission from two French companies and paying the PRS license. You pay for 30 second chunks.

Y'all do pay, don'tcha? ;)

right so let me see if I have this right, I think what your saying is NO TO MUSIC on the site then lol

All valid comments and thinking about it I have to agree, especially if I am at work and music starts up alerting my boss to my web browsing, probably not a good idea. Wouldnt help with the bounce rate would it lol.

Cheers

Phil

iirc 30 seconds and less you don't have to pay for, but still...

no :)

Music should only be in pre-set wedding slide shows - otherwise a no-no :)

HATE HATE HATE.

Though if you can get some lovely shiney flashing graphics and garish colours that burn the retinas...

Gah...

For websites, the KISS principle should always apply.

Ditto to all the above.... It smacks of the homer simpson web design skool...
