Yes
Just been clearing out some storage at home and decided to ditch all my music cassettes.

About 200 original cassette 'albums' (rock or metal from late 70s to mid 90s) and 250 'blank tapes' (all sorts) which I used to record all my LP's onto so I could use on my walkman

I used to spend hours recording LP's either my own, my pals, records and then later CD's which I'd borrowed from the library. I remember spending my pocket money on blank tapes and used to take pride in writing out the tracks and making sure all the spines were written nice and neatly. I must have had a bit of OCD when I was younger

Stupid thing is I have a decent tape deck as part of my Hi Fi Separates but I can't remember the last time I played one.

Anyway, I found it very difficult boxing them all to go to the tip but that's what I did :(

I know loads of people (including me) who have kept or still buy vinyl but does anybody still play their cassettes ?

Haven't even got a cassette player now. Last had access to one in 2003 in a Vauxhall Vectra. None of my cars since then have had one.

I did at one point have a cassette adaptor so I could play CDs from a portable CD player in the car

You should have asked on here Phil, I know an autistic lad who would have loved them.:(

I still have a box with 150-200 cassettes in. A mix of original albums and recorded albums.

He's welcome to them although it's a fair old weight.

I can remember pointing the microphone from my cassette recorder at the speaker of the radio to tape my favourite spngs from the top 40 on a Sunday night to play back. The only problem was trying to work out when the record finished and the damned DJ was going to start talking over the top of them :D

If only I'd thought of the idea of NOW that's what I call Music! :D

Phil, I don't mind paying around £12 post,if you will.PP me if so,I can send it paypal gift if you do that.
Normal parcel post will do.

Rick

There's a right mix of age and condition and no doubt a few duff ones.

I'll have a quick sort out tomorrow to eek out all the obvious rubbish as they're just stacked in a box regardless.

Anyway - I'll do that tomorrow after work then drop you a PM regarding what's left and what the box weighs.

Cheers

Phil

Cheers Phil, don't worry content as He listens to anything, the main thing to Him is the wheel going round while it plays.
His favourite hobby ,is to go to charity shops to get a tape, but they are not stocking them as much lately as no one is using them.

Remember them... I still use them and have two columns of tapes, Pre- recorded and blank tapes, some have my mixes on them.

:)

Found my old tape deck the other day when I was moving some old stuff out of my Nan's house (used one of her spare rooms to store stuff when I had to move back in with my parents).

My tape collection is mainly boxsets from 1990s Raves..... For those of you that know it's mainly a collection of World Dance, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and the like.

Haven't listened to them for YEARS!!

Did rip a few of them to CD but the quality is pretty poor.

Maybe I'll hook my tape deck up to my AV amp and remember days gone by :)

Rick my hubby has loads of cassettes and I was thinking of getting him one of those 'gadgets' to transfer them on to CD for his birthday, when I get it sorted I will gladly send you the cassettes for the lad :)

I haven't really looked yet for the 'gadget' so if anyone has any ideas or recommendations I'd be grateful - must be idiot proof please

There are some useful devices for that sort of thing at Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/gadgets-and-toys/media-archiving

'Various' tapes ;) i used to spend hours putting those together. Thanks goodness for 'shuffle' and 'playlists' these days.

I did a bit of 'memory lane' when I was clearing mine out. It's a dangerous thing to do though as you suddenly have a list of nostalgic CD's or downloads that you want to get.

OK Rick - I'll not worry about musical content but I'll take out anything that looks knackered as it will only add to postage.

And how budding music groups try and get into the music scene by issuing "demo tapes", nowadays you can drop your own music video into YouTube and hope it goes "viral".
Not sure whether today's technology had helped the music scene or whether it had merely saturated it with thousands of wannabe "superstars" all vying to make it big - a bit like everyone all trying to be the next David Bailey of the photography world. :naughty: :exit:

True - although that's more a result of what can be done over the interweb rather than digital replacing analogue media.

That said - I still have demo tapes of when I was in a band. They're staying private though. Thank goodness I never had the internet back in the late 80s - I'd hate to think of that still being online for everybody to see never mind hear

Don't suppose you have the Helter Skelter tape pack from Energy 97 do you?
I'm missing one of the tapes, lent it out and never saw it again.
It's the Ellis Dee one, he used the Star Wars theme to kick of his set.
I would love a MP3 or CD version of that set.

If you convert any of them for MP3 please send a few my way, would love copies.

I have a decent tape deck and have ripped the odd tape to CD, takes time though. I must dig through my old collection and see if there is anything worth converting.

Classic helter skelter pack that! I've got a loft full of dream scape packs that I'm gonna rip before I bin em....hardcore till I die! :-)

Still got a double cassette deck as part of the hi-fi separates, can also remember buying the blue TDK blank tapes or occasionally the expensive metal ones

Not so fond memories of untangling them from the heads then spooling them back on, bought a nifty little winder gizmo for that job

Cassettes paled in comparison to 8 track cartridges though, could select the track you wanted and didn't need turning over

I remember the blue TDK were AD90, one step up from the red D90

Then you could get AR, SR, SF, SA......

Chrome (now your talking) It's all coming back to me now. I can even recall the smell of them when you took the plastic wrapper off

Hi speed dubbing on a twin deck

That must have saved me years over time.

This was a weekly ritual in my house when I was a youngster! Top 40 on a sunday and the friday rock show with big tommy vance :)

Reminds me of that Memorex advert? ..the one where a hip looking guy sitting in his armchair is physically blasted by the sound, the sound of Memorex. I went memorex mad after that for a bit.

you dont see so much "tree confetti" beside the road anymore where someones chewed up tape had exited out of the drivers window....

lol .. We used to wait for a cyclist, stretch it across the street, have hysterics, and harm absolutely nobody. ..then came, video tape!!! :naughty:

Odd content but this is all that's left. About 160 or so for your friend.

I've just stuck them on the scales and the weight is 11.5Kg

Probably won't get to post them till early next week but if you still want them for your pal then we can sort the postage details out via PM

Cheers

Phil

When you rip them let me know :D

When I rip mine some day ill give you a shout.

I've still got my very first cassette deck from around 1975 up in the loft. An Akai GXC39, top loader with a simulated [I think] wood surround and satin aluminium top. Twin VU meters and piano keys. Before the days of remotes. There are a couple of twin decks up there too - an Aiwa and a JVC I think.

I still have all my cassettes, both pre-recorded and own compilations. I've got a few compilations that I made up from the regular John Peel recordings that I used to make in the late 70s.

This takes me back a bit :) I loved it when cassette players started coming with auto-reverse and then on double deck systems you could get them to start playing (one side) of the next cassette. As a teenager I would always go to sleep to music and this would allow me to have over 2 hours of music lol.
