Murray

working beautifully. I have backed Federer to win, but Murray to win the first set!

"...o no, I love it..."

Dreadlock Holiday?

I thought that was cricket..............

Anyway, he is doing ok at the moment.

Before the roof, no tennis would be played if it rained for the whole day. The roof means they can continue after a 30 min delay.

Is that really a backward step?

surely a bit more clever gearing on the roof mechanism would mean shuts in 20 seconds instead of 20 mins. They should have asked the engineers at BMW / Audi...

A Japanese bullet roof?

You put a roof on to enable play in inclement weather, then in known inclement weather you leave it open thus stopping play when said inclement weather starts chucking it down ... certainly seems backward to me.

:plusone:

Does seem a bit of a no brainer!

They should have a velcro court and shoes so when it starts raining they can quickly flip the court upside down and carry on playing.

Velcro court and shoes? Not sure they'd be playing good tennis if they were velcrod to the court

Whilst the decision to start with the roof open or closed may be up for endless debate, it seems a little drastic to call the roof 'backward progress' if you consider its advantages.

Hardly backwards when they can actually finish the game rather than be called off all together.

No.

They just like to make sure that the roof is a must do before they do it. If it's just going to be raining for 30 mins or so then they don't want to put the roof across only for it then to stop raining for the rest of the match.

The roof gives them the opportunity to carry on as a last resort, that's all it's there for. It's never a quick fix.

True but it would sound fantastic. :D

Really?
I remember Wimbledon as constant stops for rain and playbacks of last set/week/year/final (delete as appropriate) ... nothing seems to have changed ... roof now over anyway, so why not in the beginning to avoid delay?

Because it wasn't raining?

Everyone knew it was going to rain!

Murray had the chances to put that 2nd set to bed or at least make it 5:4 and serving for the 2nd set.

Certainly the advantage has slipped and it will be tough now.

But it wasn't when they started, they managed well over an hour without rain. Whats the big issue?

They keep it open until it rains because it's an outdoor tourny and most people prefer the open court and accept the 20-30 min delay.

Is it really still just like the old days because of a single, short delay? Patience young grasshopper. :D

Blimey, this game's a battle. Murray really being tested.

Getting bored now ... when's the footie on?

Losing that 6th game will now be it for Murray. He'll go on to lose the whole match. Watch this space

Joe, if Federer wins and you post "as I predicted.....", I'm going to ban you! :p

i'd have your finger over the big red button that says banned if i were you:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

At the exact moment when 99% of the population realise what the likely outcome will now be - Joe lays claim to predicting it. Genius ;)

Well that'll be the third set to Rog then.

Will Murray slide or can he keep his head up and turn the tide?

For all those who say that they don't like Murray because of his personality and it has nothing to do with nationality I hope that you weren't supporting england at the recent football tourney as they were captained by a sour-faced womanising racist?...or were you able to manage to overlook that eh?

Slight difference between a team of 25 playing in their team colours and one man playing for himself.

Also, I assume the "sour-faced womanising racist" is in reference to John Terry who wasn't England's captain, Steven Gerrard was.
