Murphy's laws ... If it can go wrong, it will!

When you are miles from anywhere you take out your tripod and realise the quick release plate is not on the head nor is it on the camera. I.e. no way to attach the camera. Aaaaaargh!

That's why I keep a roll of tape in my bag.

So do i but it never occurred to me to tape the camera to the tripod. Doh !

Tell me about it, I have done this twice (YES Twice ! ). :bang: I wont do it again. Fortunately the second time I had my JOBO Gorillapod in my bag so not a total loss, Phew .

Yep I've forgotten the plate when 80 miles from home (where the plate was) :bonk:

So all I did was unscrew the head and attach the camera straight onto the legs - problem solved, if a little more tricky to get level and yes you can only shoot in 'Landscape' mode - but it works perfectly well :)

So - cough - you're wrong - it can be done without tape :D

EDIT - in fact several of you appear to not have thought of the 'obvious' solution - tut tut

@Dave. All seems so damned obvious really, hadn't thought of that :bang:

In fact when i think about it my Manfrotto centre column can be set horizontally so even portrait is possible....... Doh! What an idiot. Good tip Dave.

I didn't think of it but fortunately my assistant did :D - he's got a job for life

Assuming your tripod head attaches by a 1/4" thread of course........ ;)

My Giottos legs use a 3/8" platform - guess I'll just have to make sure I remember the QR plates (or a roll of duck tape hehe)

See, not all of us would think like this. Even though I had to do this in College as students kept loosing the plates. My tripod however can also be set to portrait this way too :)

Back when I got my first DSLR, I bought an IR filter and a tripod and I headed out to the local park with it and the dog.

I got all set up, tripod out, shot framed, worked out the exposure settings needed, screw on the filter, press the shutter...nothing happens. I'd left my SD card in the laptop and at that time I only had one SD card.

Felt like an idiot, packed up, headed home, immediately ordered another SD card. It's not happened since.
