Hi,

I have been following a guide mucking about cloning in my son over multiple shots. The problem I'm having is when I do the stage where I 'remove' him from the layer the colour behind him isn't the same as the rest of the sofa so when I flattern the layers I'm left with a slight halo around him and it doesn't look natural enough. Any help getting this to match up.

Below is the colour difference I'm getting when I'm removing him...

And this is the final image as you can see on the right looks a bit well iffy :D

Added the full size jpeg rather than a resize..

Any help would be great :)

Shoot in RAW, then you should be able to keep the white balance the same which is probably what's led to this problem.

I'm lost as to why you'd want to remove a person from a multiplicity shot though?

Did you shoot him on the sofa and then the sofa without him, camera on a tripod? If so, and if the camera was on auto, the exposure settings could have changed due to the dark dressing gown. That's a wild guess...

Ah I think my problem right there, I left auto wb and did the shots over two days. I have shot them in RAW but I did the processing with the jpegs.

I wasn't removing him as such, just following a guide that said on the top picture select a black brush and erase him.

This tutorial ^ from 3 mins onwards, you can see he has a similar issue but quickly selects a soft brush and cleans it up. I'm not sure how he doesn't work for me.

is the bottom layer just the sofa without him on the right?

No the bottom layer is him sitting to the left.

Thanks for the help and if I'm confusing myself I'm pretty new to using layers and rarely leave the comfort of DPP or ACR :)

You're going to struggle going from day to day. Do them all in one shooting or the light will change too much for the images to look right.

Thanks guys as I said it was a first attempt before I try something with a few more shots. Initially I was going to do it over multiple days when his clothes changed. I see now it's much better to just do it in one hit and maybe just change his clothes :)

Thanks again :)

Finally after months of waiting I've finally gotten round to trying this again, for once no snotty nose, bumps, cut's or bruises ;)

Right this time I had the camera on a preset WB so it couldn't change, set the focus then selected MF so it couldn't move. Set the exposure in the first shot (the l/h of the 3) and did I make an error selecting Manual and leaving it there. I did get some inconsistency in lighting from the left hand to r/h.

Is it better to set AV or full manual. There is a little haloing around the l/h but it's much better than my last attempt. The l/h boy doesn't look as natural as the other two, I'm thinking the metering was different because of being nearer a window.

Of course technically I know there are other problems with the shot :)
