I've been playing around with this now I have a Nikon AS-19 flash stand. The Jessops 360AFD fits nicely, thanks for the suggestion on that one. I've been trying to use a pair of flashes, one either side, just to get a feel for the effect. The Jessops and an old Braun BVC860. The are both being triggered optically with my 300AFD (but set as low as I can get it and not pointing at the subject).
Now to the problem... Even if I set the jessops flash to 1/16 power, shortest focal length, and moved away from the subject, the output from the Braun is overpowered and virtually unseen. I'm shooting with a fairly narrow aperture to try and get the background to vanish as much as possible. (I've been reading strobist.com
...). I've turned off the Jessops flash, and put the Braun almost right up to the subject and there is still no evidence of the flash, although I can see the Braun is firing.
Does anyone have any details on the Braun and it's power output options ?
I've used it at about f/7.1 bounced on a rear wall to blow out the wall and that worked fine.
Anyone have any ideas ?
I've googled aplenty and found nothing of use on this flash, I guess cos it's so old..
