My muji ii flash doesn’t fire, I tried the red eye reduction mode and the flash went off but it doesn’t work when on flash mode? The red dot comes up when I’m focusing but it doesn’t fire? Any idea what’s wrong with it?

The mju ii has six flash modes (see manual page 50 onward https://www.scribd.com/doc/62156507/µ-mjuː-II-Manual). The main one is Auto so if you have a bright room and/or fast film then it does not always decide you need it. The fill in flash mode is the forced flash setting but resets to Auto when you close lens cover so have to select again.

Thank you for your reply. When I put it on to flash mode though it doesn’t fire?

When in Auto flash mode is no display icon. The other icons can be hard to see at times and the 'No flash' icon with the circle and line can confuse at a quick glance.

I have tried fill in flash mode but the flash doesn’t fire. Also tried auto in a dark room and it doesn’t fire. Only time it fired is red eye reduction

If it only fired once, not twice, in red eye reduction mode then could be main flash capacitor is borked or there is another fault in flash circuit. Looks as if you will be stuck taking photos in light places.

It fired then it blinked if that makes sense? Maybe that’s normal for the red eye reduction mode? Do you think I could get it fixed?

Red eye reduction mode works by making a low power flash that makes people's irises start to contract and then a short time later, about a quarter of a second, firing the shutter and main flash. Getting inside a Mju II would be a nightmare and probably cost more than the extortionate amount they go for on eBay.

Red-eye reduction usually works by illuminating the flash momentarily, before then firing a single burst of flash. It causes the pupils of the subject(s) eyes to contract reducing the likelyhood of red-eye.

It's probably unlikely that you could get the camera repaired (although that's my opinion, rather than known fact). A lot of compact cameras used electronics that are not as readily repairable in the same way that mechanical mechanisms are unfortunately.

Ok so maybe the main flash is going off then but just doesn’t go off when on the flash setting or automatic? That is strange!!

I recall that my Mju caused me some annoyance due to the flash always defaulting to Auto mode after a power off.
It was fairly quick to use the flash too, but took time to find and press the button to turn it off before shooting, a delay that I really didn't want.
If my flash had stopped working, I might still have the camera. .... But of course, a non-working flash is a problem if you need it.

IMHO a mju ii with a non-working flash should be worth more than one which defaults to flash every time you turn it on!

But I'm sure that's a minority opinion, since I've only knowingly used flash on a dozen or so occasions in my life!

Haha thanks people!! I’ll see what the pictures are like when I get them back! Hopefully they aren’t all dark!! ‍
