Sorry; double post due to interweb silliness (technical term)

The tree on the left was supposed to provide context and interest turns out to be highly distracting - IMHO. Agree??

Actually, no, sorry :( I think the original is much better by a very large margin, because somehow the rather tropical looking tree adds to the sense of being hot, and outdoors, and sighing at the drink; it gives a nice contrast to the condensation on the glass. Plus, I think it balances the composition better and gives some depth.

With the tree; a nice on theme shot with real interest. Without the tree; an unbalanced shot of nothing much.

I know the second shot took marginally more effort in reality (you had to crop it), but it feels like a lazy interpretation of the theme to me; "cold drink=sigh, that'll do", with no need to think about the composition.

Sorry if I'm being a little harsh, but please take it as a measure of how much I liked the original :)

@Southdowns. Many thanks for the comments. I fully accept what you are saying - after all those were the reasons the tree was in the shot in the first place. When I get home I will remove the light at the base of the tree which I think is the really distracting thing.

BTW interesting side point. I think this is the first time I have ever chosen my seat at a bar on the basis of the view providing an interesting photo composition!

My submission for "Sweet" added on following post.
A tray of Indian sweets called RaajKamal a type of Tri-Rangi Barfi (Three coloured sweets) - made from Almond Cashew and Pistachio.
Photo was taken here...

Lovely shot! The colours and abstract composition are fantastic!

Lovely colour and thanks for the background information

I have had to correct the background info - classic miss-communication error. I think RaajKamal is actually the name of the shop and Tri-Rangi Barfi is the name of the sweet.

Correction - I am assured RaajKamal is the correct name for that form of the sweet after all - even though it sounds like a man's name and is also the name of a film studio!

I like this one too. Good shot :)

Hi Mike sorry for not dropping by your thread before

Direction - its the 1st one for me too, its a very simple image thats been extremely well executed.

Fear - yes the barbed wire works for me as well

Sigh - i really like the wider shot, the same as Peter though i just wish the top of the bottle was in the reflection.

Sweet - the last one, its a great shot, i like the dof and the colours for me really work

Those sweets look like they have the texture of marzipan? They look very nice.
Did you take this photo in store? I bet they thought you were crazy?

I like the image, nice colours and DOF.

You're quick off the mark with secure! I prefer the simplicity of the first shot, it's really sharp.

What big bolts! I like the lead in lines but not sure of the composition in general. Good idea for the theme though.

I like the hand one best and the eggs least, good variety on the theme. ;)

They were very sweet - a bit like marzipan yes.
Taken in store - they removed the tray of sweets for me from behind the counter. Thought I was crazy - yes - but I did buy stuff from the shop too - so anything for a sale!

I agree about first shot - problem is I don't really believe a photo of somebody else's art really 'counts'. - Discuss??

I prefer #1 and #3, both on theme
#1 has strength and a well taken shot but I think that #3 shades it for me as eggs are put into a box for security, to prevent damage etc. Also I think that it would work just as well with all of the eggs being the normal colour. Others have commented on the composition but maybe better without the clipped eges?

I take your point about photographing art but why is that any different to photographing someone else's bridge? There is a wide variation in taking pics from recording purposes to creating something original but the latter tends to be done pp or in putting together objects in a way to create a story/artwork e.g. your eggs?
Maybe in this case the answer is just to have someone grip a bar and take a pic?

Secure packaging ? i'm not sure would you drop it on the floor ! I think it's a good interoperation though and I like your lighting and the colours. Works for me.

I guess it depends how much of someone else's art you've shot? The part you've captured may say secure to you (and us) but as a whole it could be very different.

Great take on sweet lovely DOF and fantastic abstract qualities,on the Secure theme I like the hand version  the eggs version is on the same theme as my sweet theme, look forward to your next pictures.

I prefer the padlocks but my eye gets drawn to the red spots on the links above the lock. Is it a PP thing?

I like the close up

Like the padlock with good rust colours but think the DOF needed to come in front a bit more as that one link seems so OOF compared to everything else

Hi Mike

love those egg's...great idea , nice focus...just wish you had'nt cropped the edges off

Secure....hand shot for me...simple effective , great focus....

Padlock...like the colors , right on theme , possibly but not definately a little more in focus on the right chain link but , no , really like it
