MPB

He's commenting on what you wrote :) (with respect)
I always thought the point of a forum is to comment on one another's posts, a conversation in fact.

Clearly I have been under a misapprehension. ;)

Good experience with them recently when I traded in a Canon DSLR body and some EF lenses. The offer was decent, so I accepted and it was collected last Tuesday. I got confirmation of receipt the same day and a slightly improved offer came through on Wednesday. The lens I’d part ex’d it against arrived on Friday and was exactly as described. Can’t fault that.

I sold them some Elinchrom ELB flashes and the quote was good, however, they then knocked it down a fair whack which I was very disappointed about! Especially when the one kit had several extras like more cables, grids, extra reflector - which they said "we just work on what was listed and tick off" - so no real reflection on the actual item in front of them.

Even more frustrating when they then list it up 2.5x the sale value they gave me, but knocked my quote down so much that I was almost tempted to just bring it somewhere else but with postage and waiting over 2 weeks for any process, I didn't want the extra hassle. First time selling to them but maybe the last, reading all these other comments

If you didn’t like their quote you could have asked for the gear back? Theres no obligation to accept their offer and they even would’ve posted it back to you FOC.

Yes, I know but my issue was the fact that all the extra cables, grids, reflectors that were included in the main kit were just ignored, and the quote wasn't reflection on the kit in front of them. In the middle of moving, so trying to get the kit back would have been more hassle, so I just took the hit.

You wouldn't have go the extras back, they would have binned them (or taken them home!)
Read the T&Cs, it in there :)

Just from working in a camera retail store previously years ago, it was more a case of being surprised that they don’t actually assess the kit that’s provided just go by a tick box system (there words) so anything that’s an extra doesn’t even get a look

That is what I’m mentioning, guess my point is if you have a camera or lens yes go for it - just from my experience with three lighting kits I find it to be very sub par

Sent some kit off to MPB and received a quote update from them today. They've reduced it by £90 claiming there was no battery included, but there definitely was one in the box.

Has anyone else had this happen? Did you have any success in resolving the issue?

Crooked bunch in my opinion!

I think thats probably a little unfair to be honest. Even the biggest/well respected companies mess up from time to time. I have over 40 transactions with them over the last 3 years, and have never had a negative experience with them.
hmm true, Just going off of my experience. Incorrect trade in, damaged item sent, then I had to "buy back" my exact lens at their listed price (much higher) as I wanted it back. But hey..

At least you got a 12 month guarantee which you did not have before.

That type of service costs and not many are able to stand by a second hand product for that duration.

I sent a DSLR for PX for another camera. They knocked £100 of the price because of a ‘non Nikon battery’. How the hell can they justify that!

Quite easily given the difference in third-party batteries versus OEM ones. After all, why didn't you buy a Nikon version?

If ones isn't happy with the quote, MPB will return your stuff free of charge I believe, so what's the problem.

I am currently mid transaction with MPB and so far it really isn't going too well. I was promised a delivery on a specific day, waiting for a good day to wait for it to be delivered to get sent an email just before lunch saying, without apology, it wasn't going to get delivered that day. Okay I understand that was probably down to DPD rather than MPB.

The lens arrived on the Thursday instead of the Wednesday and my heart sank as soon as I opened the box. My 'Like New' lens stinks of smoke and was so obvious as soon as I opened the box. and when my wife came into the same room asked if I had taken up smoking.

Other than the odour and a slightly battered box, I have not found an issue with the lens and it does not appear to be unduly dirty. I did raise a return on it almost as soon as I opened the box and yet to have a return agreed -or indeed any meaningful reply so leads me to my question. Would you just suck it up, wipe the lens down and live with it or would you return it? As I traded some items in PX I'm guessing those will no longer be available to me, I have no guarantee that any replacement lens will be any better and as they do not appear to have a phone number on their website I am stuck with their awful messaging service.

Is their guarantee worth anything?

If a lens smells that strongly of smoke, I doubt wiping it down will do much.

I'd be chasing them for a refund/exchange.

Its not the smell of smoke from the box you should be worried about its all the rat p*** and covid germs from going through the postage system sorting centers and in knackered old vans.

I hope you opened the box with rubber gloves on, I always do, or at least spray the packaging down with disinfectant or something.

Come to think of it, the smell could be rat p*** not smoke.

That was my thought. Seems they don’t work weekends and were took over a day to acknowledge me during the week. I hope they don’t just delay replies in the hope I’ll just give up - I won’t.

In future I also won’t trade kit in px - best I think to delaminate and sell the kit and buy the new then if the problem is a bit less painful.

Not sure if you have had a problem with DPD / MBP previously and they have taken up fumigating their sorting centres and vans following your complaint?

Either way glad you got a smile out of it.

It a non specific problem, I would expect its more common to all postage services than we would like to imagine. I have very rarely walked through any industrial complex without there being a huge range of pest control products both inside and outside the establishments and I have literally been through thousands, hence the rubber gloves.

No I wouldn't, the tobacco 'contamination' will have permeated the lens and will take a very long time to remove the smell.
You have 14 days to reject it and return it as bought. I would simply return it for a refund and get one somewhere else.
I wouldn't mention the return of your traded equipment, it may not still be available but even if it is there may be bits missing from it, as has been the experience of a couple of members in the past.

They are often not the fastest company in the world but you can return the item and they'll refund your money.
In terms of the trade in you'll just get the money for it.

Never had to use their gaurentee but I have returned faulty items. Never had issues, just takes a bit of time for them reply.

I am using LCE more these days as they use DPD or RM if I am shopping and the delivery is EVRI I always go somewhere else

Until recently, I worked for a courier company and spent a fair bit of time in the sortation centres and depots, yes these places aren't clean, but actual human interaction with the parcels is minimum and they are packed into the vans and lorries so tightly that any rats that do want to p*iss on the parcels can't because they can't get anywhere near them... Dust is the biggest issue.

With that in mind, I'd suggest opening boxes with rubber gloves and then washing and then disinfecting the packaging is a ridiculous over-reaction.
