I am planning to shift a couple of Canon lenses, and may need 16-35 II in return.

Does MPB pay different rates for trade-ins if you buy from them? How well do they pay compared to forum / ebay?
I am not keen on 2nd hand Canon wideangles, so that may need to be new.

But then I am toying with an idea of buying from HDEW or Panamoz

Any ideas?

No, unless they've changed their policy recently - I was always offered the same regardless of whether it was a trade in or straight sale to them.

As to how well they pay, honest answer is 'it depends' - I've had some very good offers and some not so good, it really depends on what you're offering.

When I sold my D80 with the 18-135 Kit lens they gave me the best price compared to LCE. The difference between the two was £70 and LCE was based on me dropping the camera to them, where as MBP collected the camera and lens from me.

Definitely better prices (as you would expect) on the forum.

Just ping them an email, very helpful, you would probably have had a reply today if you emailed them when you originally posted.

With eBay you need to factor in costs, which are fairly significant. Here is probably the best place in terms of what you get, but MPB is less hassle as they take care of collection etc.

MPB are excellent. Rates are as people have said maybe not as good as on here but it depends on what you wanted. There's not much point trying to shift a lens on here if a similar one isn't moving. Trade-in rates are the same.

Accepted an order from them Friday, picked up Monday, got money into my account today. Can't complain which is rare for me. I think the longest part was with DPD - who they sent to courier the item(s).

eBay costs and the entire process is just a royal pain.

LCE seriously took the mick on their estimate for me, 30% less on one item.

Don't forget that having to run a physical store adds significantly to their costs - the whole reason why online retailers can often undercut by a significant margin.

Thanks to smuggling tax free grey imports, second hand values on TPF have taken such a hit that I can get pretty much the same value for my kit with MPB and a lot less hassle.

One phone call/email to MPB, agreed on a value. They then arranged a courier to collect my kit, Two days later, cash was in my bank

They offered me £105 for a mint Nikon 18-105 lens... best offer I received on the forum was £100.

They are pretty good. Some stuff the offer low on, others high. It has balanced out nicely for some stuff I am selling
