Ok ive picked up enough SSD's now to move my PC over to them and get with the times :)

My PC at the moment is pretty slow to boot up, it seems to get to the desktop then spend a good few minutes grinding away before i can acceptably open an app up.

Ive a 100gig partition for the OS (Windwos 7 ultimate) and then 2 512gig partitions, one for app data and one for the apps. So ive got a 128gig SSD and 2 512's. Ive also got a 3TB WD External Drive that i could put to use in moving things about.

There is quite a bit to reinstall if i went for the start from scratch option but it would be nice if there was a way of doing a backup/restore that tidied up all the current bootup junk that seems to be going on. I dont want to just copy crap over to the SSD. What would people recommend? bite the bullet and just do a fresh install or is there a quicker automated option?

IMHO Bite the bullet, fresh install. Good to have a spring clean!

Just did the same thing with mine.

Tidied up as best I could re: uninstalling unwanted programs, used Revo uninstaller to nuke all the junk from various sources and, cloned the OS drive using a free version of Acronis that came with the SSD.

Just like new now. :)

Fresh install the best option.

Although if it's really slow have you got enough memory?

These days at least 8 GB of memory is becoming a necessity if you're editing pics etc and 16GB even better.

And a 64 bit OS as well.
