I am pondering on moving to a Full Frame Nikon,

But unsure which model as yet, but i was wondering what impact this would have on my lenses and if any would need changing, to make them FF compatible and what would impacted if i didn't

Lenses I have are

1) Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM
2) Nikon 12-24mm AF-S f/4G DX ED
3) Nikon 35mm f/1.8 AF-S DX
4) Nikon AF 80-400 f/4-5.6 ED
5) Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro OS HSM

The 12-24mm and 35mm are DX lenses with the others being full frame. You can use the DX lenses on a FF camera using DX mode, which may tie you over for the time being. Also, your 24-70mm will have a same FOV as 18mm on your 12-24mm lens and maybe wide enough for you??

thanks, that sort of what i was expecting to here, but wanted confirmation

Actually, the 35mm will work in FF mode too. It vignettes like crazy after f/4, but it's still quite usable (if you ignore the corners).

As above you can use the DX lenses but will have severe vignetting unless using the FF camera in DX mode. There are two issues with using DX mode on FF though. One is the reduction in resolution, for example the D750 drops from 24mp to 10mp. The other issue is it can be quite tricky framing as some FX Nikons don't black out the outer frame in DX mode.

The Sigma 24-70 f2.8 is a good lens and will likely become your main general purpose lens. 24mm is actually quite wide on full frame anyway. I'd sell the 12-24mm and 35mm and get a 50mm prime (of which there any many options for Nikon) which will kinda replace the 35mm. Then work with what lenses you have get used to the different field of view you get from full frame before deciding whether to buy anything else; is 24mm wide enough, do you need anything wider like a 16-35mm...

I've just made the jump from crop to full frame myself (albeit on Canon), so I'm in a similar position. I'm just getting used to the fact that a 50mm on full frame is actually a wider field of view to what I'm used to on a crop body and that 24mm is actually quite wide.

Good luck with the upgrade.

24-70 is my main lens now, so thats good to read that it will become my FF main lens

the 12-24mm Is really just used for property photos, for my letting agency and the occasional landscape

@npinks why?

The reason I ask is that I'm contemplating the move from M43. I happened to buy a trio of nice Nikon MF lenses (24/50/100)and an FM2 film camera cheap. Yes I can adapt them to to M43 but I don't think that's the best use. Another thing I hate is having to use menus. I like the feel of bigger bodies, I have big hands. But having said that I like the style of the GX7 and the GH3/4 has pretty much all the external controls as Nikon FF bodies. Plus Olympus's snap focus lenses look pretty neat.

Grrrrrr I hate having too
many choices.
