(I am also posting this query on other forums that i value so if you've seen it elsewhere .... apologies)

Ok - I've done it - decided to move to CC/PS and LR.

This is all part of getting new kit - to replace my 5+ year-old laptop - which has not yet actually arrived.

So .......

what do people recommend for:

- a good introductory book that gives you a good grounding in CC/PS and LR but which is readable and manageable ie not some 2 inch thick tome (I used a book by Steve Kelby and Matt Kloskowski when I started on Elements and that gave me a great start)

- is there a VERY user friendly specialist CC/PS and LR forum where I can ask - what will be - pretty simple/idiot questions

When you install CC, there is a tutorial link to each application you have downloaded.

Rhodese.

Thanks Rhodese.

I havent' actually downloaded it yet as I am awaiting a new pc - all part of a massive upgrade, and you are the first person to mention that.:)

Thanks Robin - looks good. Certainly one ill be trying:)

I have asked for advice on getting to grips with Creative Cloud - Lightroom and Photoshop on:

The Digital Monochrome Learning Forum
Photoshop Elements and More
Talk Photography

I received some good stuff in response and here is a summary.

At this stage I have not bought any of the books/watched any You tube videos etc.

The only decision I have taken is to have an internet 1:1 with Ian Barber. I know of Ian from my involvement in the B&W forum. He is a great photographer and his (free) videos are excellent. He charges £10 (GBP) per hour for internet tuition.

Just got my first DSLR and think I might make the leap and purchase the LR and PS monthly subscription so will be checking out those links and might just go buy that magazine too.

This months Digital Camera has a 50 video Teach Yourself PS CC on the cover.
Thanks for that.

Tony unless you've got someone to help you with it you might be better off starting with a low cost approach initially eg Elements so that you can get your head round layer etc.

Elements 13 is about £60 on Amazon (14 is due soon and will be more expensive)

I signed up for the £7 deal for lightroomCC last month, knew nothing got Scott Kelbys Lightroom CC book it started at the begaining spent a week sorting my photos out as the book says. External hard drives the lot i found the book great for the setup, then the basic lightroom and watching video's on the tinternet, still Know nothing, Old git. but getting their slowly Had a look in PS think i'll stick with LR for a while, I highly recommend this book. its over fifty years since i was at school :(

I am moving from PSE 11 and Scott Kelby's book on PSE 11 was really good and certainly helped me a lot so I am pre-disposed to get his on CC - but I will be having some tuition first to help me see the wood for the trees

I recommend one thing at a time.. LR plays nicely with Elements, though you may need to reinstall Elements to have it appear in LR's list of editors - or configure it manually.
When you've got your head around Lightroom start thinking about Photoshop.

Julianne Kosts's videos on the Adobe site are a really good introduction.

Thanks Simon.

yes - I am doing this and I am starting with Light room. In fact I am having 1:1 lessons with Ian Barber:

at £10 per hour. I had my first session yesterday and it wsa excellent.

I am clear tht - for me - at this early stage a combination of 1:1 and books/ad hoc videos is th eway to go. And I have ordered the Scott Kelby book:)

Thanks Simon all grist to the mill.

As I have never attempted using post editing software, I would like to know from you seasoned editors, do I start with LE first or PSE?
I went on DIGITALPHOTOGRAPHYFORMOMS site and they highly recommend learning LE first than proceed on to PSE.

I am interested to know what you all think for a 75 year old baby boy.

Thanks all.

What do you want to achieve?

You can probably do everything you need in either package, but global adjustments, raw file manipulation and batch operations on multiple files are easier in Lightroom while local adjustments and fine tuning of colours and tone curves are easier in Elements.

fwiw you can start with PSE and migrate the catalogues to LR fairly painlessly, or start with LR and add PSE when you need to do local editing too - choosing one now won't stop you from using the other later.

One final consideration:

If you think you might get more into processing then sooner or later you'll want full Photoshop - and a CC subscription will get you LR as well. In that case you probably don't want to buy a stand-alone copy of LR now; either get PSE or subscribe to CC and start with LR.
