Punt1971 would you care to expand ?? :)

Yes, we emigrated here on New Years Eve just gone. Our only regret is that we never did it sooner. I was able to find work easily as I'm a midwife and they are crying out for midwives here. Feel free to ask away.. will pm you my email address.

Good for you! We nearly went to NZ years ago but the wife bottled it, She is/was a midwife now a department director of some sort 8d whatever that is. Are midwives paid a similar rate over there. What about houses etc. I know of a few work mates who have gone to canada as cops and love it, some don't as they say it is too violent!

Well

Honestly I dont think theres anything wrong with anyone moving or emigrating to another country.. this includes people choosing England as a new home. I love France and thought about it being a good place to retire. It's still at the back of my mind actualy :)

It's people like you who slag this country off as a reason to go or slag it off after they have gone that really hurts :( If you want to live in another country then great. I may do the same myself. Not knocking you for that... But be honest.. Another country being better doesn't make us bad.. There are a lot worse places to live.

I guess that just like the UK, it depends where you end up living (ie which area). Canada is a huge country and varies greatly from province to province. British Columbia (where I'm based) is approx 4x the size of the UK but has only about half the population of the UK. Nowhere is crime free, and the main problem here seems to be drug related gang violence and shootings. Every week there is something in the local paper about another gang member being shot, or a grow op being bust by the cops. Fortunately I haven't seen any of this first hand, although the street I live in was cordoned off as the cops took down a gang member a few months ago  Stil, I feel safe here, and don't worry about being out alone when it gets dark.

Again, house prices vary from town - town. I live about an hours drive from Vancouver where house prices are considerably cheaper than in Vancouver itself. We sold a 3 bedroom end terrace house in the south of England (Aldershot) and bought a 3 level, 4 bedroom detached house with double garage out here in a nice area for not much more. Our UK house was approx 750 sq ft. This house is approx 3200 sq ft!

Midwifery here is relatively new, and the Canadians are only just catching on to it. Midwives work in a similar way to an independent midwife in the UK (ask your wife!) in that they are self employed and spend lots of time on call. I get paid for the work I do rather than a salary, although I can only hold a maximum caseload of 60 women per year. A full caseload equates to about 2-3 times more than I was earning in the UK as a band 6 midwife (or a 'G' grade in the olden days!).

I can't see myself ever leaving here and returning to the UK - the lifestyle is different - much more laid back and outdoorsy, and the feeling of not being hemmed in is great. The Canadians think the roads are busy but the driving here is like permanent Sunday morning driving

i love this country , i am just sick to the back teeth of the way it is been run , and to be honest i cant see any political party making a better job of it , now , as the rules of this particular part of TP forbid politics i will leave it there , agree there are a lot worse places to live , i just see little future for my family here , so therefore i am considering a move to another country :)

Unfortunately, politics are everywhere, and the politicians are no better here :shake:

We are 8 hours behind the UK (it's about 8am here at present)

There is some good irony on the BBC's 'Have Your Say' website sometimes. People who were so fed up with immigrants that they moved to another country!

Steve.
