So, I'm scanning the internets for a used upgrade for my 450D. Lenses are OM Zuiko 28mm f2.8, OM Zuiko 50mm f1.4, Sigma 10-20, Canon 28-135 IS and Sigma 70-200 f2.8.

I'm torn between a 5D Classic and a 50D. I shoot sports casually, railways, landscapes (but not heavily) and family events and days out. I have one lens that is not compatible with the 5D, my Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6, I already have a friend wanting that, so in effect can spend £300 more on the FF scenario.

What would you, oh wise forum, do if it were you?

Would be 5D all the way for me.

Add the Ee-S focusing screen since you have manual focus lenses. The viewfinder will change your life. The downside is that your 28-135 zoom will turn pretty dark with that focusing screen, probably close to unusable at the long end where it's f/5.6 ..

I have owned the 50D and now own a 5D (and too many other bodies).

Definitely go for the 5D. I use mine with older lenses and it produces stunning results with IQ above that of the xxD range. The only downside is the slightly dodgy screen and the lack of crop factor for wildlife (although you haven't mentioned that in your list of shooting styles).

Another vote for the 5D which in my opinion will stand the test of time for a long time to come!..hence being called the classic:)

5D will be a lot better for manual lenses, and puts out images with a wow factor that the 50D won't be able to match.

Okay guys, thanks for all the advice, I've been watching loads on eBay go for north of £600 but managed to pick up a 5D tonight for £521!!

Congradulations. Good camera. Just make sure all your lenses are EF not EF-s :)

No worries on that front, the one APS-C lens I do have is a Sigma 10-20 and an envious close friend with a 7D is taking that off my hands already (that envious he put dibs on when I merely stated interest in a 5D!).

The others are all good to go, and I expect great results from my Zuiko 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4 as well as they Sigma 70-200 f2.8. I am slightly apprehensive about the Canon 28-135 IS USM, let's hope it's acceptable until I get either the 24-70L or 24-105L.

If sigma is ok for you. There is full sensor 12-24 :) mad wide lens
