It might seem daft but I've never done this before, I need to keep my number, but it's time to end my relationship with Vodafone after nearly 20 years. I'm currently SIM only and I want to move to a SIM only deal with Virgin. Do I contact Virgin first or Vodafone? I need the smoothest transition possible, I don't care if there's a service overlap, the Virgin plan is less than a tenner a month, so it's not financially worthwhile to eek out coverage.

My Iphone is already unlocked, I know nothing about this, as I've always had a phone, paid the bill, upgraded etc. But I've been SIM only for a while now and I'm fed up with Vodafone's coverage.

But do I need to set something up with Virgin first?
 
Yes you need to set up your virgin mobile account and obtain the SIM

In the process you should be asked if you wish to port your number over, you will need your PAC from Vodafone to do this

Just to add that a PAC has to be used within 30 days

Once the porting process takes place you will loose access to your Vodafone account
 
remember and tell virgin what type of sim card you need, micro, standard etc for your phone. Took them 3 attempts to send me the correct sized one. Other than that I've had no problem with virgin mobile.
 
I'll agree with that comment about being very careful telling Virgin which flavour of card you need - it took them 3 attempts to get the correct one for my iPhone 5s [ having been told which it was ] AND to add insult to injury they blocked the card I had in my old Nokia so I was left without a mobile for a week !

I was just setting up a new phone with the same number - so there should not have been a problem. Still it's working now -thank goodness
 
Thanks Guys. My mrs got a Virgin SIM last week and it was multi sized.
 
Thats the one I should have been sent - a convertible Micro / Nano SIM - and wasn't :(
