I currently have my lightroom catalogue/photos on a networked drive. I want to move it to an external usb drive. I have already copied all the photos onto the external drive with exactly the same folder structure, how do I tell lightroom to look there now instead of the NAS.

The easiest way would have been to tell Lightroom to move the images. That way it would have automatically kept track of them.

However it's not difficult to re link them. When you start Lightroom you'll get missing images messages. All you have to do is right click on the highest directory folder and select update folder location. Now depending on how you structure is arranged you may have to do this a couple of times, to get everything re linked. Finally go through each folder to ensure there are no ? next
to the images. If there are then simply re link as before.

The LR catalogue should really be on the internal drive because yo want the fastest possible performance from the cat file. Keep the image on an external drive and make sure you have a backup strategy to cover the locations.......

Yeah I prefer to keep the photos on the internal drive but that's a 128gb SSD and I'm running out of space

Can't you add a large conventional SATA drive? They are cheap enough.
I have my OS, Programs and scratch pad on an SSD with a second 1TB SATA drive for all my data (photos, documents, music files etc.)

Unfortunately this is a MacBook Air. No room for a HD :(
