Yes
I've just sat down and tried to watch Alien v Predator: Requiem. It was truly awful, only managed to watch 25 minutes of it. Alright, the first one wasn't the greatest movie of all time, but it was watchable and quite good fun. The sequel is truly dire!

So, my question to you all is are there any sequels that are actually BETTER than the original? I can think of two:

1. Predator 2 (Ironically)

2. Bad Boys 2

Can anyone come up with any more? I realise it's purely subjective (Appropriate for a photography forum though. :p) but could still be a fun discussion.

i wouldnt say that Bab boys 2 is better but they are both amazing movies...

As for good sequels i guess one could say the Godfather's were all good.

errm. Lethal Weapon's... Die Hard 4 was one of my favourites

thats all i got right now but im sure i'll think of some more :D

Good thread though.

It's a difficult one. I think in some respects the Matrix sequeals were better, with the advance of technology used etc. But I love them anyway.

I would agree with Godfather 2 but not 3 :)

I like Terminator 2 as a sequel and the 2nd & 3rd Austin powers movies.

wost film with the worst sequel on this earth in my books....

Starship Troopers :shake: terrible

Bad Boys was too much Martin Lawrence, too little Will Smith for me. The sequel had a much better balance for me.

The 1st Lethal Weapon and Die Hard were far superior for me but have enjoyed all the subsequent Die Hards and have them all on DVD

Really? I was disappointed in 2 & 3, never really lived up to the first one for me.

Yeah, agree with Godfather 3 being poor, but the 1st was still the best IMHO.

1st Starship Troopers was quite fun but never even bothered with the sequels.

I liked the idea of clsure at the end of the third one Fabs  Plus I love that sort of thing anyway. I have the 10 disc box set, with making of etc and the Anime spin-offs called 'The Animatrix'.

animatrix was cool but the first matrix was just spectacular compared to the rest.

Fabs your right in terms of will smith and i think there is a larger element of comedy in it but i enjoyed both.

Same thing goes for remakes, I can only think of one that was better than the original and that was The Italian Job Cape Fear

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back

Maybe Die Hard 2... Hard to say... I didn't enjoy 4 though.

So far I think the Bourne (Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum) films have just got better. hopefully this will carry on with the next film, currently slated for a summer 2010 release.

too right...supremacy is awesome :D

Fabs, you shall be burnt in hell for your dislike of AVP:Requiem - I bought itthe other day and loved it!! :) It's a proper 'remove brain and watch' movie, not requiring any thought process at all to enjoy. :)

I agree that the second Bourne film was top class and I'm sure anyone who's into japanimation-style Hentai porno will appreciate the superiority of Urotsukidoji 2 over the first installment - much more Demon sex :)

Godfather 2 was excellent but hey, I liked GF3, which seems to be one of he most hated films around!

Robocop 2 - amazingly good film and as good as the first, if not better.

Struggling to think of great films that were bettered by their sequal - The Two Towers was, in a way, a much bigger, bolder, and better film than Fellowship.. but I still think all three have to be viewed as one whole.

In terms of comic-based movies, X-men 2 was superb, as was Spiderman 2 and deffo better than the first ones. The Dark Knight though was on par with Batman Begins and not better

i know it doesnt quite class as a sequel but the new version of the Hulk was a big improvement on the first one...

The batman movies have only got better i think

Although not much can top Michelle Pfeiffer in that latex catsuit in Batman Returns.

Shame about the rest of the film though. The first Tim Burton Batman was excellent where Jack Nicholson stole the show. Enjoyed Batman Begins but for me Dark Knight was quite simply the best adaptation yet and Heath Ledger was incredible, such a tragedy that Ledger died so young. :shake: The villains always take centre stage in the Batman movies which could explain the poor showing in some of them (Schwarzenegger was truly awful in his stint as a baddie).

Scary Movie 2... one of my all time favourites of all time :D

Best Supporting Actor at the oscars shame about his death, strange that nobody know why they abuse themselves in such priviledged positions in life

I'd say Mission Impossible 2 was better than 1 and 3 was better than 2 :)

A well deserved oscar as well. Did he abuse himself though? I thought it was an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

so 3 was the best :p

they were presciption but they were all alternative forms of illegal drugs. And he took highs and lows which stopped his heart...

How could I have forgotten that one. Yes, MI2 was better than the first but I'm afraid MI3 didn't really cut it for me. Again it's about the baddies, Dougray Scott was far more convincing than Philip Seymour Hoffman.

did they not have to CGI him in some of the scenes that he couldnt finish?

Can't think of one and star wars episode IV was, and is always will be, THE BEST of the lot  :D

Toy Story 2 is the one that springs most readily to mind.

Aliens and Terminator 2 would also get my vote, but only just.

Evil Dead 2, even though it was really a remake of Evil Dead was an awesome piece of film making.

Jeez, totally forgot about Empire Strikes Back - I need to have a word with myself!!!! Shame on you Spesh...

star trek II - Wrath of Khan....fantastic film. dated now but a cracker non-the-less. New Star Trek coming from Abrams in May
