Think I posted in the wrong section before...

Hi everyone, seems like a strange thing to say from an amateur photographer and someone who has worked in the print industry since leaving school (albeit litho) but I need help choosing a photo printer!

Do they all do the same job or are there any models that seem to set the standard?

Borderless A4 in size would do I think and of course I have to consider ink costs vs quality.

I'd be inerested to see what kit others on here are using.

i used a fair few to test things a year back i found the best for me for A4 was kirkland (made and sold in Costco)\ for A3 Canon glossy paper (cant remember the exact one) and for A3+ i used Illford smooth pearl
 
I'm always happy with the results from my Epson Photo R360.

That model may have been superceded now, but its a good printer.
 
just to note aswell, i ran the Kirkland against Epson Premium 270gsm and found no difference

Are you and the o/p on cross terms ?

I think he's looking for printers rather than paper .....

Or am I missing something (not unusual) :lol:
 
It depends on what price bracket you are looking in as well, some say multi cartridge printers are better than the ones that use 2 cartridges. Having only tried the HP Photosmart 8150 printer set on sRGB it produces reasonable results and the cost of the cartridges are not too expensive, but they have their drawbacks as well, you can run out of one colour and the whole cartridge is useless. But don't rule out HP colour printers range, they came out well in a survey on TV.

Of course price does not always reflect quality of print, it can also depend on the monitor you are using and how close a match the final print is to what you see on screen.

Having set mine to print using sRGB against the default manufacturers settings has helped as well, as most cameras use this.

i am a nikon dslr user, but i believe the canon printers are superb [painful to admit]

mine prints both sides [only found that out the other day],A4,tray feed various photo paper sizes and other features i haven't used yet

easy for refills as well i go to cartridge world they often have canon printers on sale at good prices as well

In my exprience Epsons drink ink.

I use the old Canon 9950 A3+ and the Canon Pixma IP5000 A4

I use either Canon, Fuji and Ilford Gallerie Classic and after some tests i use 3rd party inks
