Mounting a flash to light stand

Can somebody clarify this to me?

Im hoping to buy a light stand and umbrella. I know I need an adaptor to connect the two. But how does the flash connect with the adaptor I shown below?

Buy the way, I know FITP sells a slightly different version that has a hot shoe fitment but I understand these are a bit weak and he wont ship to Ireland.

So how does the above work? Does one of the brass pieces screw into the bottom of the wireless receiver already attached to the flash?

Yes basically - screw one end (depending on size of fitting) into the bottom of the flash and tighten into the bracket.

You'll need a coldshoe (no electrical connection) regardless of what you mount the flash on, however your SB-600 comes with a wee stand which has a thread on the base whih will screw straight onto either a lightstand or a spigot like the one shown in your piture.

I would have surely thought the bottom of the flash (and indeed the wireless flash receiver) would be a universal size. Are they not?

If you look at the brass spigot in your pic it has two threads on it, one is 1/4" and the other 3/8", so as long as you have one of those then it doesn't matter.

Just after realising that both those adaptors I showed are sold by amazon via calumet and they wont ship to Ireland (although amazon will ship the umbrellas and light stands they sell direct) ...and beat this If I buy from calumet direct the adaptor is approx £20 - only thing is they want another £23 odd quid to post to me :bang:

I use one of these. You can either use the cold-shoe provided, or screw direct to the spigot underneath. It is polycarbonate, which I prefer because it's light, but very strong. And a bit cheaper. WEX ship to Ireland no bother. They also sell quite a few similar jobbies.
