Hi all

Can anyone suggest where they buy their mount board? I am intending to cut my own so was going to buy a logan 2000 cutter but not sure where to get the board from. It needs to be a minimum of 20" x 16" for competitions.

Thanks

eBay is great, Iv bought loads for tech in black and white never had any problems with it
Biggest Iv bought is a3 so a wee bit smaller than you need but I'm sure it's put there

Yea can get on the bay just checked

My local art store does them for about £2.55 for an A1 sheet if that helps. You'll get 2 20" x 16" mounts out of that :)

Most art shops can supply mountboard, you can also get it in larger sizes. I buy them in a pack of 5 44"x32" for my paintings I can get 4 mounts to fit a 20"x16" frame from that.

Just what I was going to say.

Personally I wouldn't be comfortable about buying via eBay or mail order. I find it hard enough to get them home undamaged, they're do unwieldy, and I wouldn't expect a postie to do any better. But then having said that, the most common way they get damaged is that the corners get dented or buckled, and I guess that can easily be trimmed off. (44x32 needs a bit of trimming before you can cut 20x16.)

There are various grades from cheap and acidic to museum quality but I don't suppose many people are fussed about that.

Most of our club members who make their own mounts get their supplies from Lion Picture Framing Supplies.

Because they have a local branch in West London I've always made a personal visit, so you can see exactly what you are getting, which I feel is important if you want your mount in a particular colour, (and there are lots of colours to choose from.)
I like to select a mount colour that I feel compliments the print.

BTW regarding mount sizing, 500 mm x 400 mm (or 20" x 16" if you must) is the maximum size allowed at most clubs, not the minimum.
I use the Logan 301 mat cutter, which is really good and worth the money if you are cutting your own mounts.
