Has anyone shot any motorsport at Lydden Hill Racing Circuit, in Kent?
Is it good for spectators?
(not like Brands Hatch with high fencing covering the track)

just found it on the net, wondered if it was worth taking a trip there on a track day.

Bit off topic, but as major circuits go, Brands is actually a very good circuit for general spectator photography. If nothing else you're always pretty close to the circuit so don't need a massive lens.

Lydden is great for spectating. No big catch fencing to work around. The main tarmac circuit is pretty close to the perimeter and you'll get away with a 200mm on a track day with cars, maybe 300mm for bikes. For rallycross, and particularly the offroad sections you'll want 300mm + in a few sections.

I'd disagree with your comments about Brands. The Indy circuit can be restrictive in places, but there's several points available with low fencing and close opportunities. The GP circuit is rife with good spots and low fences.

Another vote for Lydden as far as the camera goes. For me Brands is the best circuit in Britain and one of the best in the World for watching with only Cadwell coming near but Cadwell again gets the vote for photography.

Lydden is a superb place. I've never shot it from the spectator areas but quite often end up leaning on the fence that acts as the fence so just as easy to get shots from spectator side. Bit high up in places but it's a great place

Meeting on April 4th thats worth going to if you want to

I will be going to Lydden Hill in May for the British Supermoto Championship.

It's a good circuit!

Carl.

The thing with Brands is to pick your event and viewing point. On trackdays and club meets you can get inside the circuit at the hairpin. At othertimes there are gaps in the fence you can shoot at, or even from the viewing stand at paddock you can get shots down the start finish straight/into paddock hill bend.
