i need help setting up the camera to be able to take good photos or car/bikes

any hints or tips to take good photos would be good thank you.

whats the best angle to get at
 
As low down to the track as possible would by my advice - if you can be on eye level with the rider/driver then your in a good place.

Take a lot of really fast shots, 1/800 or even faster - but also try some panning shots however don't spend too much time at it if your running out of laps - just make sure you get a good set of sharp photos and be ready to switch back to fast shutter speed should there be a crash!
 
Make sure the camera is set to continuous shhot so you can keep shooting if something dramatic happens.
 
Many ways to skin a cat, but here's how I do it.

Camera in AI Servo tracking (or your cameras eaquivalent), with shutter priority selected. For 3/4 on shots, I use a shutter speed between 1/200 and 1/320s. I then vary ISO to give me an aperature of around f8 to give sufficient DoF.

Select an AF point that allows you to track on a high contrast area of the bike / car and give you the composition you need. There is no need to slavishly rely on the centre AF point. Ideally you want to track the car / bike for at least a couple of seconds, and keep tracking for a second or two after you've taken the shot.

Many other ways to do it, as I'm sure others will chip in with.

!/800? blimey thats way too high a shutter speed. The cars/bikes will just look like they're stationary. Thats fine for headon shots but not for panning. Try 1/320 or lower to ensure that there is some movement in the shot. But remember the slower the shutter speed the more prone you'll be to camera shake so just practice with a speed that you're comfortable with without the cars looking like they're standing still! But also take into consideration the speed of the object as even 1/320 can make a moving object look parked if its going slow enough.

Hi Jay,

To answer that bit, there isn't one. Just try a few and see what YOU like.

Pretty much as some of the guys have said above for shutter speed and AI servo etc.

As a start point, I'd suggest around 1/250, maybe a touch faster for particularly quick machines. Practice panning....LOTS!
