Of all the scary places I've stood whilst shooting motorsport for the last 25 years, this is the biggest moment I've had at any event - EVER.
This is what happens when a Drifter gets confused between his ambiton and ability.
The funny thing is, it's one of the safest places to stand at Mallala.
Sorry, no pics, but a damn good video of how quickly things can go bad.
That's me at the impact point.

haha...That's because I was still shooting - you know, gotta get the shot.
At least I didn't turn my back and run like the other guy.
If he'd stayed put, he would have had some cracker shots.
 
Its only a scratch! The most important thing though, is did you get any good shots?! :D
 
You should try it when it is a racing truck. Especially when it has already driven up onto the bank and does not appear to be stopping.:eek:
 
I've been hit by bikes twice whole marshalling BSB both times I've been behind the Armco once at Oulton and once at knockhill. I've given it up now. Didn't want to risk a third one!
 
Didn't look like you swapped to your wide angle body for the impact though - shame on you.
 
Wow, think I'd stick with the other side of the safety fence next time!
 
You'll always remember that moment. Why no pics? Surely you had time to take a photo in that moment. :)
 
Yeah I did - managed to rattle off 3 frames, but was panning at 1/40sec with 70-200 & 1.4x extender.
They're not that great but I'll dig them out and post them.
 
So lucky that barrier was there mate, glad youre ok. I had a friend mowed down during a rally once, luckily he was ok (bar a broken leg)
