Motorcycle sprint anyone

Anyone done a motorcycle sprint.. I have to photo one this sunday morning.. havent a clue what its about.. link isnt working either

I've been to a car sprint. You've got to get from the start line to the finish line in the quickest time possible. The one I went to was an on old RAF airfield and the course used one of the runways and some perimeter roads. There were plenty of orange cones to mark the course.

Have a read of this - http://www.vmccsprint.co.uk/vintage_classic_modern_motorcycle_sprint_racing/Competing.html

I know the location and theres a heck of a long drive up to a big stately home.. presume they will use that.. so is it one at a time?

From my limited knowledge (have a friend who races car sprints up here but I'm not a car lover!) is they are one at a time and timed. Each rider might have 4 separate runs depending on results in heats.

Depending on the course style you can usually get about between inside and outside of track not too bad, so you can get different locations.

That's as much as I have been told. Some of the tracks up here from the looks you'll need to be keen with your ears as there may be a few blind corners, again depending on the course type.

Little help really sorry.

Cheers for that both of you...

I got the impression and I don't know why.. maybe just the name (sprint).. that it was a straight line thing... probably just me..

I shoot a car sprint series. The format is 2 x escorted "viewing" runs, 2 x untimed practice runs then 8 x timed runs

Unlike racing where its multiple laps and the winner is the first past the flag, regardless of speed, sprinting is like rallying where the driver is on his own and should rarely encounter traffic, and its against the clock.

Formats vary, but there is usually one or two practice runs, followed by several timed runs, and the fastest driver on the timed runs is crowned the winner.

Usually from a standing start, breaking a light beam, and then timing stops when they cross the finish line.

Its Hillclimbing for those frightened of heights.

First race 10am .. managed to get the website working in the OP .. only seems to work if I take out the www but not a lot of info.. I think the pic for the event is warm up or set up.. that can't be it happening... 100% sure ...well 99.9% given what you ahve said on here :)

Well theres one thing everyone left out :(

Seems you dont get the vest and allowed to photo unless you take your PL cover wiht you :(

I explained i was wiht local paper.. showed my press card.. explained I must have PL by default.. but no vest.. no access.. but i was allowed to shoot from public access which meant high up nearly overhead shots..

Thes will be in monday paper.. I manged to get some things i wanted wiht a combination of the right lens an dposiitons... but not ideal..

problem is wiht my location.. theres very little motor sport that my regional paper covers,... so nobody knew..... thought TP members would know though ?...haha.. seems not :) Just in case you missed it.. thats a BIG smile :)

I spoke to the sub pic editor..explained,, asked her if she carries hers.. she said she doesnt even have a PL cover doc... she is covered by paper....so am I ... but I do have my own... 5ml as required for prem football..

Always carry it if you have it.

:plusone: Mine is always in my bag but I've not yet been asked for it and I've been to many car sprints. It does seem pretty odd that they wouldn't allow you access after proving you were shooting for a paper.

boring pics really :( I got better ones but its not until I get home I find which are the local riders :( I did have a list but rider numbers not in order and 4 pages.. so was all over the place..

I have a copy of my PLI on my phone as a backup as well as a paper copy in my camera bag. Most accreditation is done in advance these days, so I've not been asked for a physical copy for a couple of years now.
