I'm going to Thruxton BSB for the first time in 6 years (I think). Anyway my camera and my photography has improved since then but I was wondering if anyone had any good pointers please.

I also have a couple of questions.

1) Is it a good idea to use my tripod like a monopod to aid stability when panning or is freehand better?

2) Where are good places to stand.? I used to stand around Cobb ans Segrave

Here's one I took in 2007 with my old Kodak bridge camera.

1. Depends what lens you have, but 99% of the time handheld unless you using something like a 400mm f2.8 or either the 500/600mm f4
2. Haven't been for a while, but most of the track still out of bounds (ie the fast bit of the circuit), but they have expanding the spectator area. You'll have to wait until one of the regulars post about the circuit, but I got some good action from club with the bikes, but Cobb and Segrave look good.

Hopefully the weather will be good that weekend, from memory last years wasn't great.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm using a 55-250 f/4-5.6

What I ment with the tripod is to extend just one leg and keep it folded so I can use as a mono, because I haven't got a monopod. If that makes sense. But I think I'll leave it in the car.

And too right about the weather. I've been sat on the bank there in black leathers roasting away due to heat. That would be good.

The Club complex just befor the start finish should be fine with a 55-250 as would the outside of Campbell. The grass bank just infront of the Comentry tower gets very bussy with togs even on practice day & on raceday is pretty much full by 8 o clock.Other than that you could try from the inside of Allard over the top of the armco. Its a bit of a pain but I've managed to stand on one of the picnic tables from the bar to get some pretty decent stuff from there in the past.
