Motorbikes

New battery for my Harley FXR arrives today, the last one only lasted 2 years (I normally get 6-8) because there was a bared wire in the charging curcuit that was grounding out and had completely flattened the battery over the winter. Ho-hum, I've sorted the wiring now so I shouldn't get anymore issues.

Never realised just how much nicer heated grips (or gloves!) made winter riding until I had them.

Many years ago a few of us went down to Cornwall camping, I miscalculated petrol levels a bit. Going along nicely in the outside lane when I realised I needed to turn the petrol tap over to the “reserve”
That’s when I realised my hands were so cold I couldn’t feel or turn the tap, won’t forget having to get over to the hard shoulder whilst slowing down on the motorway.
 
Clench time!!!

Had similar when I lost all power in the outside lane of the M25 with smoke pouring out from the bonnet. Made it across safely and the AA got me sorted. Not fun but we survived!

The Street battery was a b****r to change, difficult to get old one out but the new one is slightly smaller so should be easier next time but can’t complain its the original one that has lasted 10 years
Bandit battery has only lasted 4 years but thats my fault for fitting a cheaper slightly lower power one , new one should be better

I have Optimate fly leads wired to all the bike batteries so I can plug them in on rotation through the winter without pulling the batteries. I've also got an in-line condition meter on the charger's lead so I can see what state the battery is in before plugging it in and also see when the thing's fully charged.

Thanks yes thats what i do rotate the charging around our bikes
Didn’t know about in line condition meter though, will look at that :)
 
Mine came from Sportsbikeshop but I can't see the moveable ones on there now, just the battery leads with one attached.
 
Not the longest ride out today (only about 40 miles) but the first warmish one of the year. Didn't even need the heated grips on the way home! Just wish I could find a decent pair of compromise boots with enough protection for riding and walking comfort.

Yep, not heated grips and no thermal lining for me today :banana:
 
i did 286 round the lakes today, put my heated gear on out of habit, only used it this morning,but got up to a balmy 18 degrees at one point according to the bike...good to be riding in the dry for a change
 
No photos from ours - luggage space is at a premium on the Bobbers!!!
 
No rear seat for throw-overs and a tank bag spoils the looks!!! :P
 
Mot day tomorrow for the bandit and Harley Street
Then oil and filter for the the Bandit, do it myself, doesn’t take long everything is easy to get to
 
no problem carrying camera gear on the Bandit , have got a set of Givi hard luggage as I mentioned before
Just put walking boots and clothes into the boxes and change out of riding gear when I get there
 
Found a bag that straps and clips to the little rack on the Bobber so can carry a little more than bu99er all! It's attached to the swingarm though so not really the best place for a camera... Frees up a bit of space in the little side bag though so could slip one in there where it's slightly suspended.
 
But does it start? :P
 
Does anyone use an Insta360 camera on their bike and if so have you found a way to mount it so that you get a clear unobstructed view forwards and not through the screen (obviously not an issue for those of you with naked bikes) without having to have one of those long selfie sticks sticking out? I have an R1250GS Adventure and wondering if mounting to the mirror stem might give a clear view, but it's quite a big screen on the GSA :thinking:
 
Only ever mounted a GoPro clone, either on a clamp on the engine protector bar or on a self adhesive pad on the headlamp.

Seen a few selfiestick mounted 360° cameras - all seem to be above head height.

Yeah I don’t want a big long selfie stick protruding out.
 
Maybe someone does a bar end mount.
 
First proper ride out of the year my wife on her Street 750 and me on the Bandit
Was nice to get out didn’t go too far as wanted to see how her knee would cope ( has bad knee, osteoarthritis ) but she was fine :)
 
Waterproof = windproof too so that's what got worn earlier in the year but now it's warm enough for thermals under Kevlar jeans. Heated grips are still a boon though!
