Motorbikes

"Dresser" bars arrived this afternoon and now fitted. Took longer to find the deeper socket I needed to torque up the engine bolt than it did to do the rest of the job! While I had an open order, I treated it to an oil temperature gauge (more of a pretty filler cap but does help keep an eye on the temperature inside the casing) and some long, knurled seat bolts. Just needs her to finish her part of the job next Friday...
Went well I hope!

Unfortunately not. She went through a gap that was plenty wide enough for her but the examiner was on a BMW land yacht and thought it was a dangerous move. Reapplied and waiting for the date.

Got a new date - will keep you updated...

Well, today was the day and given the weather forecast (yellow warning for rain...) she was 1/2 expecting it to be postponed but it happened.

To quote her, "SMASHED IT!"

So it's "Bye-bye" to the white Bonnie (although I'll be allowed visiting rights!) and possibly a little shopping for me!

Most surprising was the insurance quote for her (with me as a named driver) for the Bonnie - £177 with a few extras included!

roll on tomorrow and tuesdasy, not been on my bike for a few days and really looking forward to a couple of days in the saddle, had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago and went past a yellow van a little bit hot(alledgedly) but lady luck has shone down on me and ive learnt my lesson because a ban would have seriously curtailed mine and more importantly my family's life for a while..so never again , went past the welsh road today on my way to and from chester zoo with my grandson...so the lake district it is

MoT day today...

Couldn't see/feel any problems.

Nice ride to the nature reserve, Bandit with boxes is perfect for that , all the riding gear goes in the boxes and go for a wander with the camera

Scrape those off and you've got enough for a Bug Butty!!!

I got 'papped' on my bike yesterday

photographers are popular at numerous hot spots for bikes and there are sevferal companies that do it, i myself have bought several and my avatar iis one of them on the snake pass in the peak district, but i was reading on the BBC recently 3 photographers have been given anti social orders and banned form a certain area because they advertised on social media and are said to have "encouraged" bikers to attend, a worrying trend that i hope dosnt spread for us bikers and of course photographers , its hard enough making a quid or 2 at photography nowadays without this

im off for 3 days so im off to Scotland for a quick blast up te west coast in the morning, hopefully heading for fish and chips in my favorite chippy at Oban on Thursday, il get about 800 miles in that time, weather is looking fantastic...i wont sleep tonight

One took my photo on Snake Pass last year but I've not been able to find it. It's a shame as I was still on my Harley then and don't have any photos of me on that.

The one I posted above was from Chatsworth.

Trousers!!!

To be more specific, what do others do about legwear when out on the bike? I wear Kevlar jeans with slip in armour but they're a bit (master of the understatement, me!!!) warm and "rubby" if I need to walk more than 100m or so. Shorts underneath the jeans aren't an option - I can't afford the sunscreen! TBH, the jeans can be over-warm even on the move but I'd rather be a bit sweaty than road-rashed should 5h1t happen.

Alpinestars Andes Air Drystar Textile Trousers, they have loads of ventilation. That being said due to the very good weather protection on the GS Adventure it can still get a bit sweaty, but better than jeans and none mesh/ventilated trousers I've had. I've bought one of the windrider type seat covers that I'm going to fit, apparently they keep your arse and gentleman bits a bit cooler

I'm away in Scotland for a few days. When I get home, I'll have a look for the company that took mine , they tend to have their own patches so you might be lucky and it will be the same one,You just need to remember what date it is you went

I wear leathers granted they are warm when off the bike but I dress for the slide and wouldn't feel right not wearing them, I wear leggings underneath them, in the winter they are a layer of insulation and in the summer they stop the leathers sticking to my legs making them easier to get off

Thanks that'd be great. I've checked roadrunner and a couple of others but can't find it. It's difficult though as I can't remember the date, I just know it was a Wednesday.

Thanks to both. Yup, it's the dressing for the slide that gets warm.

Toby, how much sunlight gets straight through those Alpinestars strides? I burn VERY easily so would need them to be pretty much light proof or I'd need to put sunscreen on the legs which is as bad as sweat!!!

I can't say for sure but I've not noticed any, it's not something that I've thought about though.

Might have to get a pair sent down from Sportsbikeshop and look for myself. Cheers for the help.

I just wear me 501s and waterproofs if it's raining.

Used to do the same when I was young and invincible!!! As Dave (Brendan M) says, these days, I dress for the slide just in case. Top end is easy - got several light, breezy options along with assorted heavier jackets but it's easy enough to slip a jacket off - not so easy with strides (if you want to go back to places!) Mrs Nod's got a pair of armoured Kevlar leggings but also far better legs than me...

I'd never go out without protective gear on. I learnt my lesson on an Enduro bike, no fun picking gravel out of your flesh :runaway:

Had a bit of tarry gravel stuck to the jeans a couple of weeks ago - felt the hit through the knee armour.

At least I had the armour!
