The guy was a monster! And 50 years of age today.

I feel quite guilty that I stole his name on Twitter. He's settled for Abdujaprov. It never occurred to me when I signed up all those years ago that the man himself might be on it one day. (I doubt we'll have the same issue on TP, though)
 
I liked the constant fight between Armstrong and the T-Mobile rider Ullrich I still remember the ride that almsot made me weep when Armstrong crushed him on the time trial stage up that big hill, i can't remember its name.....

I have MD-4, MD-15 & MD-12 drives & think that the MD-12 makes the most racket out of them all. Nothing subtle about it. Quite good really :)

Probably nothing to do with the camera!

When my kids were younger, they were regularly embarrassed by me carrying an obscure film camera. Obviously, this just encouraged me more!

I have an MD-14 drive for my FG. I have only used it once. It can use up a whole week's worth of film in a few seconds!

:agree: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but looks are what has put me off picking up a T90. Back in 1986 when I was thinking of getting one new (went with a Nikon FA instead) & now when I still think about giving one a try (Also the worry of the EEE problem cropping up). Do think a Nikon FE2 with a wake the dead motordrive clattering away has a lot more street cred surely for making a statement as a die hard film shooter lol. The fact that :nikon:has absolutely nothing to do with my judgement. :)

Maybe the T90 did look ugly in 1986 (it had to take 4 AA batteries for 5 FPS) but when you look at all the DSLRs around now, it sorta fits in and looks smaller ;)
 
Will agree with that. It is not just the T90 that looks have put me off of buying. The Nikon F4 has fallen foul as well.
 
When I first saw an F4, I couldn't believe how big it was. All that to produce a postage stamp sized negative. I have smaller 6x9 format cameras!

I have a standard F4 without the big battery grip and while it is undoubtedly a beast it is lighter and smaller than the F3+MD4 combo it was meant to replace. And then came the F4S, the F4E, and the F5...

I like my F4:
  • super-compatibility backwards (to pre-AI) and forwards (to current G lenses)
  • retention of knobs and dials
  • enormous high-level 100% viewfinder, which contributes to its ugliness, but that makes it better to look through (rather than at) compared to the prettier compact FM/FE series cameras, especially for me wearing glasses
  • great metering, decent AF, 1/8000 shutter, fast motordrive...
  • viewfinder/focusing screen is also much better with manual focus lenses than most other autofocus cameras are. It's very much a bridge between MF and AF worlds.
All in all it's a great shooter which does its job brilliantly.

I will agree that it fell out of the ugly tree, but needless to say it survived the fall!
