Yes
I have been allowed onto a local ciruit to shoot, long as I can provide proof of insurance.

Is this public liability?

Any advice welcome

Yep - you need to know how much cover they require, no good getting £2 million if they require £5

More than likely, I think the minimum cover is £2million but some require £5million

EDIT; need to type quicker :D

Is this Croft by chance?

If so I think their current requirement is £5m, and they will want a copy of your insurance document to hold at the circuit. I had mine through Glover & Howe when I covered events at Croft, and I think it was around £100 per year for the cover.

Who are you going to be shooting for?

Simon.

Why would he need letters of accreditation and examples of published work to get insurance?

It's a while since I first applied for mine but is that now a requirement?

Yes it's crofts, I'm shooting purely for my self to build up a portfolio etc. Will give them a ring back ask more details about their requirements

I mean to get trackside. Croft have tightened up their vetting procedure recently.

PLI + Portfolio of published work + Letters.

Scratch that, I need to be shooting for a company lol

least I save money and can get some from the spectotor side... N.m

Andrew has it on the money with respect to Croft's requirements as you have now found out - no circuit will allow you trackside to 'build your portfolio'. If they did, they would have thousands of people with cameras trackside. If it's any consolotion, I had pictures published in the local press for a couple of years before ticking all the boxes for accreditation and getting trackside.

A combination of personal choice and personal circumstances mean that I've decided not to apply for media accreditation this year, so if you're at Croft this Saturday you'll probably see me about the place on the spectator side of the fence.

I won't be up this week, but when ever I get up there would be my first go at motor sports sonif anyone is there when I am your more than likely to come give tips.

What lens range would you say for this track?

For most conventional 3/4 shots you will need at least 300mm.

You can get decent side on pans with considerably less than that.

ahh very nice...looks like you can get some nice positions from the spec area.

cheers

Try some of the smaller circuits or club meetings at circuits, rather than the big meets. I've been allowed trackside at various circuits during trackdays. Other places such as hillclimbs have great access without getting trackside i.e. Prescott Hill climb is brilliant for photo's from spectator areas.

Cheers....will give a look in to other tracks see what happens :-)

Harewood Speed Hillclimb just outside Leeds is an absolutely cracking venue for photography!
