MotoGP goes to Silverstone.

I suppose I hide better get my tickets for the last meting at donington.
How many years have they had the meeting there 20 plus

I suppose it will halt Silverstone going bust hopefully but I think it's a rubbish bike track for viewers. Donnington should have left F1 down south, it'll ruin the track forever.

F1 will ruin Donington & Silverstone will ruin MotoGP :'(

It's a shame they couldn't move MotoGP to Brands....Rossi drifting through paddock hill bend:woot:

Apart from the poor location I reckon Brands would be a better location for MotoGP. Can you imagine seeing them all coming round paddock hill bend, awesome. Not as good as seeing a bunch of overpaid primos (not the whole paddock but there's a few there) jumping the mountain at Cadwell.

Even better send MotoGp to the Isle of Man, I reckon the only people who would turn up would be Rossi, Stoner and Toseland.

Great minds Kev:thumbs:

How strange. At least now Silverstone can stop sulking over the fact it lost the F1. I reckon Donington will do the F1 good, as long as they can prove to Ecclestone in September that their track will be completed in time.

Personally I think the GP will be great at Silverstone. It's got the facilities that the blue ribbon class deserves, and the links in and out are the best in the country. OK, so it's not the greatest for spectators, but you can see a lot from the grandstands and I for one will renew my interest in visiting the event again.

Donington is just a very very poor venue fro spectator facilities, and it's crap to get in and out, even on a bike !

Donington is going to be a nightmare to get to for F1, Silverstone close down the assive dual carriage way and is lovely to get to and from for F1, I can't see Donington building new roads to the site to allow better access.

I think Silverstone for MotoGP is going to be bad. Limited viewing for spectators, probably an uninteresting track for the riders too. True, access roads are better, but I think the new Donington track looks really interesting, especially the main new section where there should be some interesting changes in elevation.
Wish MGP had stayed at Donny !

Oh well, another nail in the coffin for good sporting events here in the UK.

Silverstone has to be the worst circuit for both spectators and photography.

I agree Donington's facilities were dire but all Moon(scape)verstone really has going for it is the improvements made to getting in and out and, and, and, and.........hmmmm can't think of anything else.

It's boring to watch at and it's boring to photograph at...

Not good news as I was hoping to snap a MotoGP one day and my home round is the easiest to sort out.....

Saw this on the news last night, oh well looks like I'll have to get on the bike and go to the 2010 MotoGP round in Assen then :D
Don't like Silverstone circuit much watched a WSBK round there a couple of years ago and didn't see much, great bike dealer on the edge of the circuit though

I think it's going to be park and ride only. No cars (public), apart from club members, allowed to enter the circuit grounds. How well that will work, we'll have to see ...

It's not getting into the circuit from the car parks that's the issue at Donny Sy. It's getting from the car park to the M1 in less than 3 hours after a MotoGP that's the issue - Oh and sliding down a muddy grass banking when it rains. Still, once you were in the atmosphere and racing at Donington was good as were the photographic opportunities if you were trackside which made up for "Moonverstone" each year.

Yes, tell me about it!! I think i was stuck in the carpark for about 2 hours at the Moto GP. However, I do get the impression that we will not be parking in the normal car parks at Donington. I think the idea is to park in surrounding towns and villages!! Freeing up the roads around the circuit for an 'efficient bus service'. We'll have to see what happens.

Donington took ages to get out of last year (around 3 hours from memory)

it was a nightmare that will be made worse by the F1 IMOi know Silverstone were looking at track upgrades in order to hold onto the F1 and a new paddock building, hopefully these will still go ahead and make the MotoGP more excitiing

I look forward to this years MotoGP, tickets already booked for the practice and quali day, no way will i do the Race Day again

Looking at the track mods I'm pleased they've kept craner curves as they are but I think it's a shame they've got rid of the last hairpin, I reckon the surface there would have caught a few drivers out but I guess that's not what F1 is about.

It will be interesting to see what their transport plans are, I reckon that unless they do something radical there will be a lot of disgruntled travellers missing their flights at the adjacent east midlands airport.

Can't believe they can actually do this?!!

Perhaps the most spectacular element of his plan is to close East Midlands Airport over the race weekend and use the facilities to fly in F1 charters from all over Europe, executive jets, helicopters and to use the airport parking. To achieve this he simply has to offer the airlines involved a better deal than they would get from passengers.

I'm not getting all the hate for Silverstone. The roads and facilities are good, the track is fast and you can overtake on it, I don't think it's any worse photographically than Donington really.

As for views, looking at some of the other circuits on the calendar for this year, I don't think it's that bad, if you do your research on where to view from.

Part of my problem with Moonverstone Mike is that I like clean shots, not ones filled with background clutter cos it's not that that I'm trying to relay to the viewer, it's the action provided by the vehicles and competitors. Silverstone is pretty featureless to be more than kind and all you can get for atmospheric backdrops are wire fences, tannoys, grey grandstands etc etc. I always 'walk' the circuit before a meeting and compared to most other UK circuits it's featureless. Being an old airfiled too makes it pan-flat meaning your can't lose the clutter behind trees or elevation changes.

The other issue is with it being an old F1 circuit is that the run off is huge and that negates even my 400mm f2.8 with 2x on in alot of places. I don't crop my shots to close in on the subject and as the backgrounds are so naff, there's little atmospheric wide-view/small subject stuff you can do there.

Each unto their own I know, but that's pretty much why I hate the place. :(

The idea, I think, is to use the Park & Ride at the soon-to-open East Midlands Parkway train station, and run busses from there.
The traffic is truley dire for any big event at DP, you should try living in the village! I think the biggest task they've got is not effectively closing East Midlands Airport every time there's a big meet.

Looks like Britain could lose both then as neither track will be right for the type of racing they want to do there. I really can't see Donington being ready for F1.
