Yes
it was announced today that BT sport will have exclusive rights to show Moto GP, Moto 2 and Moto 3 races, qualifying and practice sessions. to get this you either have to be a BT internet customer (if you are it will be free) or you can get it on Sky for £13 a month in SD or £15 a month in HD. there will be no coverage on the BBC and British Eurosport from the end of 2013.

personally I think this stinks.

I agree with you hubby is not going to be pleased

what annoys me more is that they have moved MotorsTv right to the end of the sport section of the planner and stuck two channels that i wont get in its place!

on the face of it though if bt sport dont get a wide range of motorsport onto their channels then people simply wont pay £15 a month just to watch MotoGP

big dissapointment not to be able to see motoGp after the end of the year though.

I do admire them though for trying to take on Sky. This on top of the news of free EPL coverage shows they are being quite aggressive.

But it was shown free on BBC and on Eurosport now we have to either be a BT Internet customer to get it free or pay to receive it on Sky. At the moment there are no plans for virgin to broadcast the channel and quite a lot of the country, myself included cannot get a fast enough Internet connection from BT to receive Tv even though I live in the middle of the fourth largest city in England.

It's the way football went a while ago. It's the way cycling looks to be heading too.

Just wait for when some anti-monopoly ruling means that two or more companies get separate coverage of Motorsport so you have not one but two subscriptions to pay if you want to watch every race, as happened with Sky and Setanta dividing premier league coverage.

Of course, if they really wanted to challenge the monopoly then multiple broadcasters should cover the same matches so you have a choice and market forces actually apply, rather than most matches going to broadcaster A and the remaining matches going to broadcaster B.

That's the end of that for me then.

What's the difference between ducks, swans and bt?

None, they can all shove their bills up their bum

Shame.

Moto gp ill lose a lot of support and money from us then.

Its only exclusivity, so I'll just watch it an hour later on Euro sport. Hey hum

I've had to put up with this ever since moving to Canada. Have to get a specialty sports pack in order to get SPEEDTV, which at the time showed MOTGP, MOTO2, WSBK & Superpsorts. All shows were, and still are absolutely butchered by ad breaks and annoying commentators. This year we lost WSBK & supersports. I can't even get a legitimate online feed for this.

It's sad to say, but due to the lack of coverage over here my 30+ year fascination with all things bike racing has waned to a point were I don't even watch the sports anymore.

Be thankful you still get decent coverage over there, even if you have to pay for some of it. Think about us poor souls across the Pond!

I am in a funny situation having full Sky package BT Infinity 2 and now BT YourView so a bit overloaded as also have WD live Smart TV and Smart Blu Ray and XBox360....

Trouble is there is sod all I want to watch.

As my youngest has returned home for a "while" there seems to be non stop crap showing which means I disappear to my garden office to listen to my trusy radio.

I miss the Saturday Grandstand days in black and white when I wasn't dragged off to watch Chelsea or Fulham at home by my dad.....

I always enjoyed watching rallycross and some of the other classes

When we have now reached a situation where our TV and internet comms mobile phonrs etc) with all tbe variety and choices take a huge lump of budget it may be time to wind down as I work through a back of the envelope cost benefit analysis of tme watching v Cost per actual hour...... Not looking too clever at the moment.

BT may have thrown down a challenge but things have a habit of creeping up in cost.

So much choice So much sh**e

Stock car racing from Crystal Palace on World of sport, with the best drivers starting at the back.

I'd get rid of sky, but the breadknife would not be happy.

Bsb and wsbk has been more exciting for the last three years anyhow. Still a shame if we don't get to see Scott redding and Cal progress as I think they are a class act.

Shame.

Not so sure about that. Eurosport released a statement saying they weren't going to be showing it at all next year.

Is it worth checking the differences between British Eurosport and Eurosport? And which of the two does Eurosport Player show in the UK?

Isn't that the truth:(
We came back from the gym last night (the only productive part of our evening), and the choice, if you can call it that was absolutely dire.
We just have basic freeview, loads of channels, but the majority of the time it is just loads of rubbish.
If I want to watch live sports (Giro d'Italia at the moment), I use the computer, but very often the picture is rubbish.
I too yearn for the days of Grandstand, live test cricket, Ryder Cup and best of all Murray Walker and F1.

Dunno about that, this season's MotoGP has been cracking - a massive turn around caused by Rossi back on the Yammy and Marquez upsetting the status quo.

I won't miss Crutchlow whinging everyweek though, which looks like its only going to get worse next season when he finally gets his "factory bike he deserves".... a Suzuki that even PBM's CRT bike will **** on :)

As much as I love superbike, MotoGP *should* be where the best action is but Dorna aren't doing themselves any favours here - the UK is a major market both for sponsors and for bike sales. Its also NOT F1, its a different viewer segment.

This can only fatally damage MotoGP for the UK.

I absolutely panicked for ten seconds yesterday between seeing "BT Sports coming soon" and finding Channel 447! I thought I was going to miss out on Le Mans through the night and CSCC saloons from Mallory and all sorts of great stuff! :D

Wimbledon, dear boy!! The two South London places might have shared Selhurst Park for a couple of years, but you're probably the only Pirates fan at Ashton Gate ;)

FWIW, the racing from Crystal Palace was Ronnie Peterson in F2 or James Hunt punching people live on TV in F3

I too yearn for the days of Grandstand, live test cricket, Ryder Cup and best of all Murray Walker and F1.

Sounds like you need Sky! Bad luck! :D The cricket coverage and the F1 are both far better than the BBC ever managed and, best of all, Muddy Squawker has been retired and put out to grass! [Except when Sky F1 shows replays of fabulous races from the '80s and you realise again just how bad and wrong the Murray Walker/James Hunt duo repeatedlyly were :bang: ].

You're right - complete memory failure there on my part there. Crystal Palace was never a shale oval (bizarre thing is I knew this, so no idea how I thought it was). Never saw them racing in London, but I can remember going with my parents to watch them while on holiday, a few times at Ringwood - we used to go to watch Poole Pirates speedway when on holiday in that part of the world as well - and somewhere in Suffolk, Mildenhall perhaps when we were in Clacton, when I was very young.

Only time I've been to Ashton Gate is for a Bristol vs Gloucester rugby union match, so City or Rovers is of no moment to me ;)

Have to admit, so far this season moto 2 & moto gp have been good, let's hope it continues *** the last two season especially were dire.

So is that £15 per month on top of the sports channel package or is that £15 just to watch the BT channel without having to subscribe to all the ther sports channels??

its a stand alone channel you don't have to subscribe to Sky sports to get it.

How do you get that?

The thing that always has nark'ed me about subscription "sport channels" having motorsport.... I don't know any motorsport fans who give a damn about any other form of sport. We do tend to be purists!

Unless they plan on having a load more motorsport, I'd just be paying 15 quid to watch motogp... I used to get cross with Sky and WSB many moons ago for the same reason.

Thanks for that.

Its one of the only sports I watch to be totally honest so sky sports will go and will subscribe to this instead.
I watch a little football from time to time so no great loss there and F1 is crap so even less loss there.

I've always been massively into motorsports. F1 all my life of course, and I discovered IndyCar/CART in the 80s and have watched that ever since. But I also love cycling and wintersports. So, 3 weeks of my May is devoted to Il Giro, 3 weeks of my July is devoted to Le Tour, and 3 weeks of my August is devoted to La Vuelta. Then I'm glued to Eurosport over the winter for coverage of biathlon, downhill, luge etc.
Bottom line is , yes there are motorsport fans that like other sports.

Well, there always was going to be 1.... one swallow doth not maketh a spring as Josef Stalin once said
